Rip City Reunited
By Antony Copland
It was 1999, the National Basketball Association had just tipped off their 50-game season following a lockout with New York Knicks Center, Patrick Ewing as the NBPA President. Those same Knicks, with teammates Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas, scored their way to the NBA Finals, where they later fell to the San Antonio Spurs.
Here we are in 2011, twelve years later. The Cambus has reunited in the Northwest, as the dust still settles on yet another lockout. They are joined by the other tag team reformation of Gerald Wallace and Raymond Felton. Craig Smith and Camby, as well as the "Crossover" returning to his gym roots with McMillan.
In 2008, Jamal Crawford lit up Wallace, Felton, and the Bobcats for 50 points, three years and one day, tomorrow. Every year the team has a slogan, this year should without a doubt be: Rip City Reunited.
Did you know, that Jamal Crawford holds the NBA record for four-point-plays?
Did you know, that the Knicks made it to the Finals following a four-point-play from Larry Johnson?
Did you know, last season, Brandon Roy's second-to-last basket, was a four-point-play?
Perhaps all of these things have nothing in common, or perhaps, 2012 is the year of the Rose, and I'm not talking about Chicago. The Oregon Ducks are playing in the Rose Bowl. With the petals blooming into red jerseys, the City of Roses will be a definite thorn in the league this season.
Maybe, just maybe, the Cambus will take a trip back in time, and we'll all party, like it's 1999.
