Will Roy ever start again???

No matter what the draft or final's excitement brings to NBA fans, I think the question on every true Portland fan's mind is will Brandon Roy get healthier over the off-season and be the franchise superstar he once was, and most importantly, will he start again?

I think that his 18 point fourth quarter over Dallas in game 4 shows us that he is not ready to give up yet. He led one of the best comebacks in NBA playoff history, and proved that he should still be the face of the franchise and an all-star along with (the should have been all-star) LaMarcus Aldridge. Wes Matthews did a great job starting in the absence of Brandon Roy, but we all knew it would've ended sometime, somehow. 

With the draft coming up, and Portland's 21st pick, I think it's safe to say that the Blazers could have the NBA's deepest bench in the 2011-'12 season, if Roy were to start. Lead by Nic Batum and Wes Matthews, the Blazer bench would be unstoppable. Every starter on a basketball team has the responsibility of getting their team points, and stops early on in the game. With the success Portland has had in the past with Roy, the team could get off to a great start, and finish strong. But in the middle, you have players (Batum, Matthews, C. Johnson, Fernandez) that could be starting on any other team, for ex: Cleveland, Philadelphia, Washington, Phoenix, and many others, who would be holding the team together in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of every game, virtually dominating every other team's bench. 

This is exactly why McMillan needs to put Brandon Roy back in the starting lineup, working towards a powerhouse position and eventually a strong Final's team.

  1. I certainly hope we see him back. I don't think we need 23, 5,6,5 every night to be a contender with the way Aldridge has been playing. We will see but i certainly wish him the best as far as a recovery. I used to get so excited every time he touched the ball because I was 'used' to him doing something amazing. I feel spoiled now, it was the kind of magic that anyone would hope would never end.

  2. Brandon's knees are shot, He has heart but playing on heart only works once in awhile. Brandon will never be a consistent Blazer starter again with no cartilage in his knees. Hopefully he will step down or we can get the salary exception that the league is talking about for the 2012 year and remove his salary from our books.
