Why the Magic will never win a championship (but the Blazers might)

By Just Tim

They (the Magic) spent most of the game trying to figure out how to play confidently without him, spoiled by his dominance the last six weeks. The Magic couldn't play inside-out. They lived on jumpshots.

Dwight's Mighty Mites had a shot to win without him, but that's not the point.

Brandon Bass, Ryan Anderson and Earl Clark, power forwards disguised as centers, tried to replace him. It took all three of them. They did a commendable job, combining for 31 points, 23 rebounds and five blocks --- an all-star kind of night for Howard.

Howard might have been able to lend them all a hand as an extra man.

"If we have Dwight," a teammate said. "We blow them out."

This quote from one of the Orlando beat writers ( I think it was the Sentinel) explains clearly why the Magic will never win the big series.  They do not have the "no excuses, no whining, no blaming" mentality of the great winners.  I am so glad Nate has refused to wallow in the defeatist attitude displayed here.

Let's see, if we had not missed over 300 games of injury (we have) , if we only had the number one overall pick (we did), if we hadn't traded away our only center available while our center rehabs (we have), if only 2 out of three of our last first picks weren't down with wknee injuries (they are), if only our only all-star (on paper) had meniscus in his knees (he doesn't), if only we got respect from the rest of the nation (we don't), and so on and so on . . .

No, the Blazers refuse to quit or whine about the circumstance and simply keep on grinding out wins.  Give me Nate and his attitude any day over the "woe is me" attitude displayed in this article.
