Another Portland Basketball Team?

By RipCityRevival
No no, Portland can still only support one professional team, but the team occupying the old Blazer Practice facility has done pretty good this weekend. The University of Portland Pilots took second place in the 76 Classic Tournament on Sunday. For many other NCAA Division One basketball teams this could be a let down, but we are talking about the Portland Pilots.

This team is as pasty as the Finnish National Team. They are undersized against probably every team they play. None of them look like they spend much time hitting the weights, but some how they made it to the Championship Round of that tournament. I attended UP in only six years ago and the program looked like it would never again see a decent season. Pooh Jeter seemed to be the last recruiting hope for the school. Now, they are a long ways from being a national contender, but could they be on their way to March Madness?

I'm not saying they are the team to watch. I'm not even saying we need to go fill thie Chiles Center, although I'm sure they'd appreciate it. I'm just saying "good job Pilots." I hope you continue to grow and get better. The threes didn't fall for you tonight the way they have been and even with that you were able to cut the deficit to ten late in the game. Not bad.

I hope that you guys get a chance to compete in the Tournament this year and I hope it helps your recruiting. You have had some big wins against some historically good schools, I hope you gus continue to do well. An underdog story is always fun to hear. I won't be following them specifically this season, but I thought as long as they have been down, they should be recognized for doing as well as they did.

  1. I'm pretty excited about the PSU/UP game on Wednesday. UP has definitely played very well so far this year and currently holds the title as best team in the state, so if my Ducks or Vikings don't make it this year, I hope they can rep the state well this year.
I don't want to jinx it, but if they keep playing this way a at-large bid is a lock, especially considering that the WCC is a legit conference.

  2. Yeah, the WCC didn't used to be though. It was always Gonzaga, and everyone else. The rest of the conference has really stepped up their game as of late. I'm a Duck fan too, but they're getting beat by some teams with a little less of a reputation so far. Oh well, for Duck Nation it's all about 12/3. The Civil War for the Roses. GO DUCKS AND BLAZERS!

  3. Definitely GO DUCKS and BLAZERS!
Pretty nice that UP is ranked in the top 25 for the first time in ages..good that at least one team in the state decided it was time to represent..I mean OSU is losing to schools Google wouldn't even know about and UO falls to Montana, at home, by 20!?!
Thank goodness for the Blazers and Duck football.
