Olshey is at bat, bases loaded.

Watching the playoffs has been informative given that we're all outside looking in.We've learned a lot about the 8 guys we have under contract and the guys we have options on resigning. First off I really like Stotts and Olshey moving forward. Level headed, patient guys who understand the process of building great things. You've all probably heard Neil talk about making us competitive going into next season and with that said, he's mentioned the need to acquire a defensive, rebounding, paint protecting center. He's also mentioned as we all know that we need talent on the bench.

The exit interviews seemed to paint a clear picture as to who is scheduled to come in in June and work on speciific areas of their games. The main guys who mentioned it were Nic, Joel, Will, Victor LaMarcus, Damian and Meyers. Wes always does so I won't mention him but it's encouraging to see that these guys all under contract will work to get better before next season. Neil also mentioned that the pick will more than likely be moved in a deal to get a big man and Maynor is probably a player they'll look to resign if the deals they look into will not cost more than it'll take to resign him.

I think JJ will be starting at power forward for another team and Olshey basically said, 'love to have JJ back but not at the price tag he's going to command." I see JJ wanting to be in the eastern conference. At the allstar break he wanted to go to the Nets. Seeing as how JJ rejuvinated his career in Portland I think he'd want to help the team by agreeing to a sign and trade. Jermaine O'Neil says he would love to come back to Portland and he's a great guy to take over Jared Jeffrie's roster spot. Then there's Kostas Papanikolaou. He's gained value either as a player here or trade piece. Kaleb Canales is Texas bound and there's a glaring gap at the defensive coordinator position on the bench. Seeing as how we're the worst defense in the league last season, I'd look to the best defensive teams asst coaches and start there. Sure worked for Chicago and the Spurs.

Who will be the guy? Who will be the center? 6th man? Bench defender? At this point ideas are like a ping pong ball in play. Neil is at bat and I expect him to swing away! I don't expect many rookies from college on this roster next season. Portland fans have a reputation of being the most loyal, passionate fans on the planet so before we get too far into pitchforks and torches looking for the monster...try to remember the 4 steps involved in building anything. Situation, problem, process, solution. We're at step 3 and getting hung up on step two is a real momentum killer. I'm really optimistic about next season and glad to have Neil Olshey at the plate with the bases loaded.

Shout out to Kass for a great blog I read this morning! This is my first blog so if it seems a bit of a ramble, I'll try and get better at this. Go Blazers!!! Fans are welcome to chime in in the comments with step 3 input but I ask that we avoid talking about step 2, the problem. We all know what those are. Let's look to the process!

  1. Nice River

  2. Thanks knorton! It definitely needs line breaks. Well looks like they've hired Tibbetts which coincides by the way with the Dalai Lama's visit, wait he's a Tibetan and we've just hired coach Tibbetts? What are the odds I ask?

  3. River just an FYI man unlike the message boards the blogs have an edit feature so if your unhappy with the look edit it man. Otherwise your right Olshey does have an opportunity to make an impact this summer he did okay last year with Lillard and getting JJ on the cheap but we need more going forward.

  4. I tried that cmeese but I get an error msg saying I'm not authorized to do that. Not sure how to edit a blog unless there's some password I need to get into it, it's beyond me. Would love to redo this blog with line breaks.
