Lillard lands #1 pick - Rising Stars Challenge

The Rising Stars Challenge will be played in Houston on February 15th.  The draft was held lastnight on TNT between Shaq and Sir Charles from a pool of 20 players.  With the first pick of the Rising Stars Challenge, Shaq picked Damian Lillard.  Chuck seemed to be disappointed, perhaps thinking Shaq would go with Irving.  I think that was Shaq's strategy all along to take Barkely's first choice.  In the end, Shaq got both Lillard and Irving (picks 1 and 3).  Kenny Smith stopped the draft to slap Shaq's hand the second he picked Irving, declairing, you just got "the backcourt from heaven."



One of the first to show some Lillard love was Nicolas Batum via twitter.  Both Shaq and Charles are big fans of Batum.





You can vote for the starters on nba.com.  Vote early, and vote often!  Hopefully Damian will get the start.  This is how the draft shook out.



If anyone has any doubt about which team is better, I made a little chart below that pretty much spells doom for Team Chuck.



Everyone of the guards can shoot the three pretty well.  And the rebounding won't be too shabby.  I'd be surprised if Shaq wasn't favored by at least 20+ and didn't score 150 points.

UPDATE:  Drummond will be out for the next 4-6 weeks with a broken tail bone and will miss the Rising Star Challenge.  A replacement has yet to be announced.

  3. I still think he did it more to screw with Charles, but going #1 is sweet. This 1-16 vs orlando... maybe the expectation and lime light got into his head a bit.
