Haynes: Lillard's Father Taught Him Well

By DHawes22 Posted in: Blazers, damianlillard
For the majority of their storied 42-year existence, the Trail Blazers' superstars have shared the same character traits and qualities: honesty, integrity, humility, and hard-working. While Damian Lillard isn't a superstar...yet, the lottery pick and current "Franchise Point Guard" already embodies these traits and he has his father, Houston to thank. CSNNW's Chris Haynes put together this fantastic piece about how Houston helped shaped Damian into not only the player but person he is today.
“He's a quiet dude, but he keeps it 100 all the time,” Damian said. “He's an honest dude. He tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. He's like that all the time. Him being tough like that, that's how he made me and my brother.”

“I feel like now that I'm in the NBA and not only can I provide for my family, but I'm in a position to where I can change people's lives. Not financially, but just having an affect on people and that's how he is.”

Here in Portland, probably more so than any other NBA city, we value the player's actions equally off the court as we do on the court. And it looks like Damian is already on the right path, in large part, due to his father's influence on his life.
