Lack of assists

By mbmurr1 Posted in: Blazers
I am hoping this is not a trend, Speaking of Lillard having only 3 assists and 4 turnovers in 28 minutes. There is too much talent on this team for Damien to turn into Westbrook. It is after all still the pre-season, I think this is something that the coach should address if it continues. I am not saying he should be hamstrung and not allowed to shoot, shooting is an essential dimension of his game but, if he is going to be successful in the NBA at the 1 spot 7-8 assists a night is a minimum number on a team with the talent of Portland. I believe we should have picked up Kidd when we had the chance as a mentor to Lillard. As a result of no true mentor, I think it will take much longer for Damien to adapt to the NBA then it would have with a mentor like J. Kidd.

Any thoughts?

  1. I'm not a fan of overpaying for over the hill pt guards like Kidd..the DUI king who has Raymond Felton starting over him right now...We have a great mentor for Lillard....Ronnie Price! Lillard has played 3 NBA games in his life and seems to take half a game to get in stride so far. Since Stotts coached Kidd to a championship, I think we have that mentor already. Jerry Sloan coached Ronnie and Ronnie backed up Deron Williams and Steve Nash before coming here. I do agree about the lack of assists though. Rebounding too. Our ball passing has been an issue since Andre Miller left and to me..Dre is the best mentor in the league right now.

  2. Kidd was just a suggestion but I think Miller would be better. The problem with Miller is that I feel management burned the bridge with him when he was sent to Denver.

  3. Ronnie Price played behind several players in his career but that does not make him the type of mentor that a long time starter would be. I have nothing against R.P. but I would have liked to see a more experienced mentor not someone who can tell him how to ride the pine and not be a starter.
