Meet BlazerDancer JennaLea

By sarahhecht Posted in: blazerdancers, Jennalea

Welcome back veteran BlazerDancer JennaLea!

Born and raised in Portland, JennaLea’s dance history is tied to the Trail Blazers. At eight years old she started dancing with Body and Soul Creative Dance where she trained and competed for six years. Toward the end of her tenure with the studio JennaLea joined the Junior BlazerDancers and got her first taste of performing in the Rose Garden—she was a member for three years.

Through high school JennaLea danced with a company that afforded her the opportunity to travel and perform at places like the Universal City Walk, Times Square and Nike. But at 19 she decided to take a break from dance, which at that point had been a focal point in her life. She was ready to focus on school and developing as an adult in the professional world.

“I was thinking that dance wasn’t everything that I had to do and that I wouldn’t completely miss it,” JennaLea said. “It was more a part of me than I ever expected.”

It was a only a short stint away from dance before JennaLea realized how important it was to her. To break back into the world of performance she auditioned for the BlazerDancers but fell short. Instead she spent the year dancing for the Vancouver Volcanoes. “Not only to gain back my dance experience and technique but also to learn to incorporate the basketball/NBA style,” she said of her time in Vancouver.

It only took a season for JennaLea to get back into her groove. Last season she tried out for the BlazerDancers and earned a coveted spot on the team where she enjoyed every moment.

“Of course the fans were amazing every single time, especially at the last game with our usher dance,” JennaLea said. “It was absolutely one of the most fun and exciting experiences being able to dance with all their familiar faces.”

JennaLea is thrilled to be back for a second season and intends to use the lessons she learned last season to mentor the six rookie BlazerDancers. The most important piece of advice she’ll give is to soak it all in.

“Enjoy every moment, don’t let anything get away from you because there are so many things that you will do that you could easily forget,” she  said. “You learn and grow from every single thing you do. I’m still growing myself.”
