Banfield Pet Hospital and Trail Blazers Celebrate Dog Park Makeover
By make it better
On Saturday, September 8th, Banfield Pet Hospital and the Portland Trail Blazers teamed up to celebrate the official re-opening of Chimney Park’s Dog Park. Chimney Park was voted by Trail Blazers fans as the Portland Public Park most deserving of an official “Dog Park Makeover” during an online voting contest held last season on trailblazers.com. As part of the makeover, Chimney Park received a new water source, deep can for waste, two double entry gates, two picnic tables, new paw-friendly bark chips, mended fences and filled holes.
Prior to the celebration, Trail Blazers make it better volunteers, Banfield volunteers and members of the community all chipped in to repair the park. Teams of volunteers sweated in the hot sun as load upon load of new cedar bark chips were wheel-barrowed and spread along the path. When most of the work was wrapped up, a short celebration took place hosted by Trail Blazers radio broadcaster Brian Wheeler that included words from key members of Banfield Pet Hospital, Portland Parks & Rec and the Trail Blazers.
Members of the community were able to have professional photos of their dogs taken, enjoyed cupcakes, free dog treats and an overall incredible morning in Portland. Thank you to everyone for voting and helping revitalize Chimney Park and look out for the third dog park makeover voting contest later this season.
