Why would we trade Matthews? Because we could use our 1st rounder back from Charlotte and we could use the expiring contract of Kevin Martin next summer. Even now the team must look to the future, we have several contracts expiring in 2015 and we have too much talent at the SG position that will demand minutes (Williams, Barton, Matthews, and possibly Batum). Perhaps we should stand pat until the trade deadline before the end of the season then look to trade but I think Matthews will not get the same kind of minutes this year at he received last year, So his numbers will be down and therefore his trade value will be down from what it is now. Basically if we trade him now we get the most for him. I feel we should have taken the trade for Batum with Minnesota as well. Who knows? 2 first rounders, amnesty from penalty for Webster trade, 1-2 quality players. I think Nick has a HUGE amount to prove.
Flynn isn't under contract with the Trail Blazers right now, fwiw. Also, the Rockets don't get nearly enough back in the trade scenario in my opinion. Martin and Patterson, really their only two reliable players at the moment for the albatross that is Tyrus Thomas' contract, an unproven rookie (Claver), Reggie Williams and Wesley Matthews? The ante needs to be upped for them to bite.
Landry is not under contract either but I think we should sign him. Are you saying Houston would not be interested in Matthews? Tyrus Thomas has a lot of potential, I agree his contract is not attractive. I don't think they will do the deal either, but we need to at least make an attempt to fix this situation before the ship sinks. The thing is teams in Houston's position do crazy deals, look at what they have done in the last 2 months so making an offer could not hurt.
