The Oregon Jewish Museum recently established a Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, and four Sammies (members of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity at the University of Oregon) were the first four men inducted. They are:
Harry Policar, one of the founders of Sigma Tau Chapter at the University of Oregon, and for many years, Athletic Director of the Portland Jewish Community Center and Director of B’nai B’rith summer camp.
Leonard (Ike) Donin, Oregon ’31, until his recent death when he was a few days short of his 100th birthday, was the oldest living University of Oregon athlete. Donin was a great two-sport athlete in basketball and baseball at the University of Oregon.
Hal Saltzman, Oregon ’47, was captain of the University of Oregon baseball team, All-Northern Division, won 23 games with the Portland Beavers in 1948, and later played for the Cleveland Indians.
Harry Glickman, Oregon ’48, President Emeritus of the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association and NBA Champions in 1977.
