All Goes According To Plan, Trail Blazers Land Two Early Draft Picks

By sarahhecht Posted in: 2012draft, draft2012, draftlottery
All is good in Rip City.  For the first time in Trail Blazers history Portland has two lottery picks. Six and eleven.

At the Draft Lottery party, held at the Lloyd Center Buffalo Wild Wings, Trail Blazers broadcasters and fans gathered and anxiously awaited the reveal of the order. It was a tense and exciting atmosphere all the way to pick six, everyone unsure if Brooklyn’s pick would land in Rip City—Portland owned the rights to the pick as long as it wasn’t in the top three. Seeing the Nets’ logo at number six was the best possible outcome for the Trail Blazers.

Here is the reaction of fans and broadcasters as they learned Portland would keep the pick

Now the real fun begins. The next month will be spent on the great debate of what to do. Use the picks? Trade them? Package them together for veteran talent? You tell me.

Keep your eyes on in the coming weeks as all of the Trail Blazers broadcasters share their mock drafts.

  1. The GW return on investment pick! Well done Portland. Very happy for how the evening turned out for the Blazers. Worst case could have been ending up with the #13 pick and only that one (2 teams leap frogging them and NJ keeping their pick).

Now the fun part begins, no guarantee that Portland keeps the pick(s) or even if they use them both that the player taken at #11 doesn't end up being as good or better than the player taken at #6. This draft is deep & balanced after the top spot.

It's a great day to be a blazer!
