Aldridge: 'We have to keep working'

By sarahhecht Posted in: hickson, kalebcanales, LaMarcusAldridge
INTERIM HEAD COACH KALEB CANALES

“A very hard lesson for us to learn, but a very valuable one – that we have to understand that we have to get it on the defensive end of the floor, not the offensive end of the floor.”

On not defending the three-point line well:
“We’re disappointed when we give up 10 threes and they shoot 10 for 19, 53 percent. But we didn’t play consistent defense for 48 minutes tonight.”

Did team look lost when Felton was on the bench?
“Well we believe in the guys that are coming in from our bench. I thought we had some empty possessions there to close out the third quarter. We didn’t make enough shots tonight.”

On Rockets defending Aldridge:
“LaMarcus is our All Star so he is going to be a point of emphasis every night for scouting reports, game plans. They did a good job early but he got into a rhythm there in the second half. We went to our pick and rolls and especially in the mid – and he got some open looks. But again, it’s not offense for us, it’s defense.”

LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE

“We definitely were in the game. We just kind of got flat and their guys didn’t miss too many threes. We tried to give help with their penetration and then they would kick it out to the corner for threes. Give credit to them. They didn’t miss too many threes down the stretch.”

On playoffs looking less and less likely after loss:
“It’s getting closer and closer, but we have to keep working, keep getting better and keep trying to build. This is not for us to throw in the towel. Guys will keep working hard and keep getting better.”

On motivation in this situation:
“Me personally, if I’m going to play, I’m going to be motivated. I don’t need to be in no playoff race to be motivated. This is our job and this is what we love to do so I think guys should come out and still play hard every night.”

JJ HICKSON

On trouble getting over the hump late in the game:
“Late down the stretch – not just this game but all the close games we’ve lost – I think the last four minutes of our close games is where we need to really buckle down and play great team defense and pay attention to detail as a team. We’ve got to execute on offense. We’ve got to know what plays we’re going to, who we’re going to. We just have to execute down the stretch on the offensive and defense end.”

“It’s not one person or one position. It’s us a whole. Coach Kaleb, he’s doing a great job of giving us defensive schemes to go into the game with and execute, but like I said, down the stretch, he’s not on the court with us. So we have to pay attention to detail and lock in and get stops and execute on the offensive end.”

  1. Hey Miss Sarah;
I don't worry about the play-offs or even wins and losses, I watch for playing the best you can in the game, and I feel the Blazers are doing that.
We had some good and bad plays that come with being a BB player. On a night that we couldn't hit our butt with both hands tied behind us, I thought we did good. We were never out of striking distance and kept them from getting easy shots down low.

  2. Hearing now that LA's hip is bothering him enough to warrant further evaluation results in my having even more respect for his efforts on the court last night :)

  3. I agree EA, but disagree with Rondo, I think we will make an offer to all the FA PG's. But actually I think Rondo will stay put. I don't know about D Williams. I think there are many PG that will improve us.

  4. Hg - did you mean to post this in my wishlist blog? :) Either way, Rondo is not a FA, not at all, he could only be acquired via trade. Boston was fishing before the trade deadline to see what they could get for him. They are going to rebuild, looking for young assets and picks. He'd had to be a draft-day trade deal, like the Felton/Dre deal was. My wish was "pie-in-the-sky" anyway, meaning extremely unlikely. As for other PGs, improve, yes, probably a handful to choose from. Take team to next level? Only 2-3 probably. This is a great source for upcoming FA/RFAs and what they might be worth (not 100% up to date, but I've yet to find one that is): http://www.hoopsworld.com/2012-nba-free-agents

  5. @EowynAmarie:
No I was referring to the Rip City Update with Sarah and Adam. Remember I am not multitask and I couldn't keep up with the reading and listen to Sarah and Adam at the same time.

I just had noticed you mentioning Rondos name quite often, I didn't know if it was trade or FA,
