Portland’s All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge Debuts In Orlando

By sarahhecht Posted in: LaMarcusAldridge
It feels like we’ve been waiting for this for a while. Actually, about a year. Ever since LaMarcus Aldridge took massive strides in his career last season and pushed his play to All-Star caliber. Then came the snub.

This year the same mistake wasn’t made. Aldridge's incredible play and his leadership of the Trail Blazers was recognized and he was honored by being named to his first All-Star team. This weekend in Orlando he lived the experience he’d worked so hard for.

It started with the trip which he tweeted about delightedly as he headed to Orlando. (You can see all of the All-Star's tweets by following @aldridge_12.)

Next came community events with NBA Cares and a morning practice with the West team.

Finally the big night was upon him. Now, the All-Star game is typically dominated by guard shooting and this 152-149 win by the West was no different. Though his minutes on the hardwood were limited to just under ten, Aldridge did his best to make them count. He put up five shots and hit two for a total of four points. Add to that a rebound and an assist and you’ve got a nice first performance as an All-Star.

But All-Star weekend isn’t just about what happens on the court. It’s the meaning of being there and the actions that earned you a coveted place on the roster. Doubtless to say our All-Star soaked in every moment of a weekend he’s tirelessly worked for.

For more photos check out this incredible gallery of Aldridge’s time on the court, donating his time to NBA cares and just generally being awesome in Orlando.

Lastly, the message boards are alight with discussion on Aldridge’s first All-Star appearance so head over and say your piece.

  1. Thank you Miss Sarah. I had to work all day, and didn't hear how LaMarcus played. Glad he got his first year in and I am expecting many more.
Oh, while I have your undivided, full attention, OK while you are here, do you think the reason LaMarcus was snubbed last year was because he was unable to sign up for the Olympics team? I have often wondered that, but have never heard it mentioned much.

  2. i think LaMarcus had a very nice outing in his limited minutes. Obviously, he didn't play enough, but he represented the BlazerNation well. Perhaps the best part is that his family, especially his mom, was there to experience it with him.

  4. @HG, I don't think LA's snub had anything to do with the Olympics. He just started his stretch of improvement a little late. I seem to remember him having a MONSTER game the day the coaches votes were due and thinking, "too bad those votes weren't due tomorrow, he'd have been a sure thing."

  7. Hey Miss Sarah:
    Thank you for your reply.
I very seldom get to watch You and Adam, or Adam and Sarah, but like to keep up on all the Blazers stuff I can.
My next big scoop is what is your take on the latest Brandon Roy planning a comeback, is it just media hype or is there some truth to it? I know he can't come back as a Blazer until summer of 2015. Nevertheless, it would be great to know.
