Craig is in the building...

By Wayne M Kehler
There is a buzz in the air in Portland tonight.A feeling of stability and legitimacy. After a very productive day in free agency, the Trailblazers organization seems to have made all the right moves.

When I noticed veteran Marcus Camby(@marcuscamby23) asked RipCity to welcome Craig Smith(@csmeezy1) on Twitter, I immediately checked every media outlet on the web for confirmation, but none was discovered. Marcus had broken the story. Thanks Marcus. PF/C Craig Smith, AKA Rhino, is a late addition to the 2011-2012 Trailblazer roster.

"Craig Smith is the muscle Blazers were lacking. He and Kurt will keep everyone honest," Mike Rice commented via Twitter.

The Inglewood native played ferociously for Boston College from 2002-2006 clocking 2,349 points. At 6ft7, Smith should be able to provide plenty of relief inside as well as another piece to this ever growing depth in Portland. Smith averaged 7.4 pts and 5.1 reb a game in his rookie year 2006-2007 with the Minnesota Timberwolves before being traded to the LA Clippers in 2009. He is Rip City family now.

After a tough week, Blazer fans can now rest easy knowing we have a very strong team WITH depth and a definite shot at the post season this year as well as promise for the years to come. I for one, would like to welcome Craig Smith, Jamal Crawford and Kurt Thomas... Welcome to Rip City. It's time we shake up the west.
