Larry Miller Press Conference Highlights

By sarahhecht

Tuesday afternoon—and in a scrum we haven’t seen for quite some time—Trail Blazers team President Larry Miller addressed media on numerous topics regarding the future of the team.

Here is a snapshot of major points on a summer’s-worth of topics.

On Greg Oden and free agency
• Interim General Manager Chad Buchanan’s first call today was to Brandon Roy’s agent, the second Greg Oden’s.

• Multiple plans for free-agency have been formulated. A, B, C, etc.

• “We have a plan. Between Chad, Nate and myself we have a plan.”

• “Greg is a part of Plan-A.”

• Over 20 player agents have been contacted since restrictions were lifted this morning

• “Our goal is, and continues to be, to make our team better.”

• “We put it [a search for a general manager] on pause. We know what we need in order to get better. Our biggest need is in the post.”

• “Przy fits in well with us, and if we can work it out, he’d be a great role player for us.”

• "If we have a healthy Greg and a healthy Brandon we have a great roster."

On Brandon Roy

• Miller answered countless questions from numerous angles on the future of Brandon Roy clearly indicating no decision has been made regarding the three-time All-Star.

• “There would be no way we would make a decision like this without looking at every possible factor.

• “Absolutely no decision has been made regardless of what anyone says.”

• "With what Brandon has done for this organization and this team, there’s no way we make a decision without looking at every single aspect of the situation. Every factor, including the fan factor."

On LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum

• "I'm expecting LaMarcus to be an All-Star this year."

• "Nic is part of this organization as we see it in the future."

And of course the video of the presser. Watch, digest, discuss, repeat.

  1. Oh Miss Sarah:
this is a great PR blog. I have been on Blazers Edge for a week arguing that the Brass should look at BRoy before making any decision. If they had been peeking through the curtains in pick up games and know what he can do and decide to use the amnesty on him then so be it. that is BB, but if in fact he can still play and I mean play then just because he has a max contract is no reason to get rid of him.
My way of thinking it is team work that gets us wins and I could care less who gets the big checks and who get the little ones as long as the players are happy.

It would be great to get Joel back as a back up and a role model. we need someone of his caliber until Greg is back and running on all cylinders. That is great news that the Blazers is looking into it.

I am thinking with Joe freeman ready to come to the Blazers next year, with Joel, Greg? LMA and maybe Chris Johnson our post players will be up to par.

As you can see, I am glad the gag order is almost up and I can start talking to you and the two Mikes, Adam, Casey and anybody else that wants to talk Blazers.

Be Sure to blog on who shows up at the facility tomorrow and how they look.

Thanks Sarah. I needed to vent.

  3. @Hg, Welcome back! I'm glad to be of service for the ability to vent, feel free anytime! I'm not out that the PF today, but Casey is! I don't think many of the guys will be getting into town until this weekend or early next week, but as soon as they're in you can bet we'll be reporting on it!

@sopadeajo, Thanks for the well wishes, I'm looking forward to playing Dallas as well!
