Meet The BlazerDancers: Greta

By sarahhecht Posted in: blazerdancers, Greta

“Live life to the fullest, no regrets.”

‘Tis the mantra of Rookie BlazerDancer Greta. An outlook adopted in recent years as she’s supported her father through a tough battle with cancer and learned to embrace the importance of happiness.

The early years of Greta’s dancing career were filled with tutus and ballet classes. She’s been moving and shaking since she was just 3-years-old. But it wasn’t until middle school that she started to take her dancing seriously.

With dance constantly on her mind Greta joined the Cardinal Dance Team at Lincoln High School in Portland. Four years later she was off to college and joined the dance team at the University of Oregon. After a year on the squad Greta took a break from the team environment to focus on work with her sorority, Delta Gamma, and funk aerobics, a dance class she fell in love with while in Eugene.

After graduation Greta returned home to Portland, but for her something was missing. She missed the bonds shared among teammates united toward a common goal. She missed the competitive side of dancing. To return to her love of dance and camaraderie Greta tried out for the BlazerDancers.

She didn’t make the squad her first try, but that didn’t stop her from finding what she needed. She filled her need for dance as a member of the Vancouver Volcanoes, where she danced for three seasons, and then as a Rosebud for the Winterhawks for two years.

“I needed the family environment of a team,” Greta said.

During the years between her first audition and this season’s fourth attempt Greta took the valuable lessons she’d learned from one of her biggest supporters, her Dad, and applied them to her dancing. She wanted to be a BlazerDancer and nothing was going to stop her.

And nothing did. Four years of auditions finally paid off this year and Greta earned her BlazerDancer poms. More importantly, she’s living her mantra everyday. She never gave up. She never quit. She’s living her life to the fullest. And she’ll get to smile at her dad from the Rose Garden floor as he does the same.
