Kia Summer Tour Goes International

By make it better Posted in: arvydassabonis
The 2011 Statewide Summer Tour presented by Kia Motors received an international twist with Trail Blazers Hall of Famer Arvydas Sabonis making a stop at Eichler Park in Beaverton to lend his basketball expertise to local youth. Over 65 children from the community spent the morning improving their skills during a clinic led by Trail Blazers alumni and radio analyst Antonio Harvey and other staff. Sabonis doled out rebounding lessons to pint-size hoopsters and taught them the importance of a good scream to intimidate their opponents.

Jump, rebound, AAHHHHH!!

This particular stop on the make it better Summer Tour was perfect for the Lithuanian big-man because the campers had an international flavor as well. With five languages represented including Somali, Swahili, Arabic, Spanish and English, Sabonis’ was right at home in sharing his rumbling voice and thick accent. After a morning of hoops and photos, the 7-3 superstar had won the hearts of the youngsters just as he did the hearts of Rip City during his time in a Trail Blazers uniform.
