Original Trail Blazers Harry Glickman and Dale Schlueter were on hand for the groundbreaking of a new Virginia Garcia Wellness Clinic August 12 in Cornelius.
The ceremonial groundbreaking was to celebrate the building of a new Virginia Garcia clinic on the grounds of the current clinic. What started off as an office in a three-car garage will soon be an all-encompassing wellness clinic thanks to various grants, including one of the first Trail Blazers make it better
grants. Once completed, the clinic will double Virginia Garcia's capacity to serve patients in and around the Cornelius area.
Virginia Garcia Memorial Health centers, named after a six-year old who died of what of what should have been an easily curable infection, provides over 132,000 office visits to more than 34,000 patients a year in Washington and Yamhill Counties at four primary care clinics, three dental offices, and two school-based health centers. Their mission statement is to "provide high-quality, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate primary health care to the communities of Washington and Yamhill Counties with a special emphasis on migrant and seasonal farmworkers and others with barriers to receiving healthcare."
