little league vs. pony league

By mbmurr1 Posted in: littleleague, ponyleague, travelball
I understand having your kid play little league until about age 7 to learn the basics but the rules being different then baseball they see on tv is confusing for them and pony is just so much more competitive. When the kids reach high school they must play pony rules anyway so I think the sooner the better to learn how to play the right way. My 12 year old 8th grader has now moved beyond pony to 60-90 ball to improve his game to the high school level as the throws are longer and it improves the arm strength and base running ability. To each their own but if your kid has a talent for baseball move him up to pony for his own good, play travel ball if you can, move up to 60-90 in 7th or 8th grade. This will give him the best chance to be a starter in high school and be considered for a scholarship to college.
