Meet The BlazerDancers: Veronica

By sarahhecht Posted in: blazerdancers, veronica

BlazerDancer Veronica’s life oozes with inspiration. From incredible eloquence to strong confidence, she draws the strength from those around her to make her dreams a reality.

Originally from Atlanta, GA, Veronica and her family moved overseas to South Africa when she was seven. A bouncy and bubbly youngster, her mom enrolled her in dance classes where she studied tap and jazz. During her eight years living abroad her passion developed into a calling. A tap champion in her youth, Veronica decided her future was as a performer.

The University of Georgia was the next step for Veronica where she majored in dance. Epitomizing the historic Dance Theatre of Harlem she studied to be a ballerina, but couldn’t hold back her love of other styles. Following graduation she moved to Portland to be closer to her family, an integral part of her life.

Not one to ever stop pursuing her dreams Veronica continued to reach for her goals in the dance realm.

“My parents have always told me that I can dream big dreams if I’m willing to go get them. I can say I want to be a BlazerDancer and not work for it,” Veronica said. “You have to believe that one day that’s what you will be. Embody what you want.”

Her father, a world-renowned cricketer who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth, brought the game to South Africa to strengthen the country after the end of apartheid. Veronica’s mother is a two-time Emmy-nominated reporter. Both of her sisters are doctors. Veronica fits the family mold of success as a professional dancer. Every one of them has dedicated themselves to making their dreams reality.

Now in her third season as a BlazerDancer, Veronica continues to improve herself everyday both on and off the court. Self-described as vibrant, genuine and kind, she brings her personality to the floor with every performance and hot timeout.

“As a professional dancer I want to shine. I’ve always wanted to be on stage, and what bigger stage than 20,000 people in the Rose Garden,” Veronica said.

Lucky for Trail Blazer fans, we get to see her light up the arena knowing she’s representing us well in every way.
