The make it better
summer hoops coaches piled into two new Kia Sorentos and ventured up I-5 for the only Washington stop on the 2011 Kia Motors Presents Statewide Summer Tour, at Ridgefield High School. The kids, most of whom had come from another sport camp that morning, were eager to learn the play basketball the Trail Blazers way. By the time t-shirts were handed out and permission slips were handed in, more than 50 campers had taken the floor. Their enthusiasm was equaled by Todd Bosma, camp director extraordinaire, and Antonio Harvey, radio broadcaster and ambassador, and the rest of the camp staff. The kids, though, had more energy.
Todd, Antonio and the coaches did their best, but the Ridgefield players kept coming back for more. From outside the gym, the clinic seemed loud. Inside it was deafening. Controlled chaos, it turns out, is nearly overwhelming. After nearly two hours of instruction on the basics of basketball, Todd separated the clinic into one final series of shooting contests pitting four groups against each other. The action was fast. The determination was furious. Suffice to say that the every kid in the gym that day earned his or her free milkshake (or smoothie) from Burgerville, another of the great Trail Blazers partners that sponsors the Statewide Summer Tour.
The next stop on the Kia Motors Presents Statewide Summer Tour is August 2nd in Wilsonville.
