BlazerDancers: Preparing For Auditions

By sarahhecht
It’s an exciting time in the world of Trail Blazers entertainment. The lovely ladies who will perform for you during time-outs, hand out logo-bangers and throw you t-shirts are eagerly preparing for their chance to make the cut to become a BlazerDancer. In-game entertainment is serious business, and we here at Trail Blazers HQ know how getting swagged by BlazerDancers is the icing on game-night cake.

Auditions for the 2011-2012 BlazerDancers start in just over a week. As the final days of preparation come to a close, dancers all over the Rose City are polishing up their routines and looks with one goal in mind: Be a BlazerDancer bombshell.

And it isn’t just new hopefuls who are preparing. Veteran BlazerDancers have to audition for the team every year—there are no automatic returners—and experience many of the nervous emotions new dancers feel.

“My emotions are the whole spectrum, excited, nervous,” said Rhea, a current BlazerDancer. “I question if I’m prepared enough, how ready is too ready? I take classes, I workout, I shop for costumes, I figure out how to wear my makeup and hair and I work on my solo routine.”

The dedication necessary to become a professional dancer is immense and every job is earned through an audition. A process that can be challenging, even for veterans.

“It’s different every year. Even as a returner I don’t know exactly what to expect,” Rhea said. “I get nervous as a veteran that I don’t want to get too comfortable. I like to be kept on my toes so I’m at the top of my game if I prepare properly.”

In the coming weeks stay tuned to to see BlazerDancer hopefuls make their way through the audition process and to meet your new BlazerDancers!
