Isaiah Thomas played three seasons with the University of Washington Huskies before declaring for the 2011 NBA Draft.
The 5-9 Guard’s accolades include First Team All-Pac 10 last season as a junior. He also ranks in the top ten in UW points, assists and steals history. In his first season with the Huskies he was named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year.
The Trail Blazers welcomed Thomas to a pre-draft workout on June 6, 2011.
“Isaiah had a very good workout,” said Chad Buchanan, the Trail Blazers acting General Manager and Director of College Scouting. “Very good pick and roll point guard it’s a skill that he’s got to have at our level which he showed today. Made shots, made mid-range jumpers, made good decisions with the ball, very competitive, feisty kid. Very confident kid which is, at that size you’ve gotta kinda have those extra traits to compensate for your lack of size. I thought he was very good today.”
Thomas could contribute to the Trail Blazers, who are in need of a point guard to replace the aging Andre Miller, with his speed and quickness. His court vision and athleticism also lend to his success as a floor general.
While a lack of height may be viewed as an obstacle by NBA teams Thomas feels it isn’t an issue.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve played against someone that’s taller than me,” Thomas said. “So I’m used to it and I feel like I can use it to my advantage on offense and defense.”
