Meagher: You Be The GM Rankings, Where Does Your Favorite Player Stand?

Sean Meagher over at OregonLive.com conducted the annual “You be the GM” polls allowing fans to vote for each player to stay or go based on the previous years performance.

After a few weeks of ranking everyone on the roster the results are in and some of them may surprise you.

For instance, Chris Johnson garnering the 4th highest stay votes just behind LaMarcus Aldridge... it was pretty much love at first dunk with CJ. I too would like to see him stay, but a 92% stay rate is a bit much. Putting on some pounds during the offseason makes this a bit more viable, but we won’t see that play out for some time.

The result that REALLY gets my blood boiling is Brandon Roy. He’s at the bottom of the stay list with only 52%. I don’t get it. Sure, he had a rough season with injury, but he worked his tail off to get back and proved to be a valuable contributor. Just because he isn’t back to the “Brandon of old” caliber doesn’t mean he won’t be important to the future of the team. Someone explain this to me... please.

On the other end of the spectrum I’m stoked to see the positive response for Greg Oden. I’m proud of Portland fans for keeping the faith. He’s battled adversity and is continuing to work to get back on the floor and contribute. With as long as the road has been I think we’ll all breathe a collective sigh of relief in the near future. It’ll be rewarding to say the words, “He was worth the wait.”

I voted for Roy to leave, but it has nothing to do with his on court abilities. It more has to do with the fact that every time he is in the game it becomes BROY-ISO offense time, which is really annoying to watch and is also quite ineffective because it takes everyone else out of the rhythm of the game. If he could find a way to play in the offense without clogging it up and making it only BROY-ISO, and maybe play some decent defense like his rookie year when he took Carmelo 1-on-1 and shut him down at the end of the game, then I wouldn't mind Roy being on this team. But until those things change, and I do not know if that is on Brandon or Nate necessarily, I don't think Roy is a good fit for this team as currently constructed.

My three gaves (L-Train, WessyWes, & Pat Stacks) all have won over the fan's approval, especially LA and Wesley. I am really surprised only 62% wanted Patty to stay. He's the perfect bench player who can bring instant offense but also knows his role and is one of the best teammates we've had here in Rip City.

@Richard Don't you think it's natural for Roy's game to look like he used to play? Or try to look like it? He hasn't had much time to adjust and on top of that it's difficult to adjust while in the middle of a season. That goes for everyone playing with him and Nate as well. Brandon is smart and talented, given a team camp and time to REALLY focus on how to adapt his game could be all that's needed to see some serious success out of him again.

I'm proud of the Portland fan base. 79% vote to return for Greg Oden? How many other fan bases would have kicked him to the curb a long time ago? Yes, I know there are some people out there who bad-mouth him, but the numbers don't lie. Bring back Greggers!

i would have voted for Brandon to stay. i believe what he needs is a training camp to get acclimated to the system (the one where LaMarcus is the first option). speaking of LaMarcus, how the heck is he NOT the highest?!

biggest surprise (other than CJ): Elliot.the 84 percent keep is surprising given that we've never seen him play a regular season game.

beware -- don't let Julianne see that two-thirds voted for Luke to go!
