Milestones

I'm feeling a little nostalgic because my birthday is coming up and it brought up a lot of questions for me about where I am in life and how it is or isn't different from my childhood expectations. Looking back on my soon to be 26 years there have been some defining moments that stand like milestones on the road map of my journey thus far and that journey started with dreams.  The great thing about a milestone is that it isn't a final destination but a marker that shows how far you've come and how much you still have to travel. 

 When I was a child, if asked what I wanted to be when I grew up it was very simple....A singer, a dancer and an actress! Now my singing skills lean more towards karaoke with family and although I'm a bit of a class clown my acting days were limited to school plays but dance was one piece of that puzzle that locked easily into place. I'm blessed and so grateful my parents made room for my sisters and I to dream and believe that one day those dreams can be real through a winning attitude, good choices, discipline, and hard work. 

My mother has lost over 85 pounds this year and is able to enjoy a healthy and active retirement ever hopeful her grand babies are soon on their way ;0) Most recently I traveled back home to Atlanta to celebrate my sister realizing one of her dreams. Grace graduated from Emory Medical School with a Masters in Public Health and her MD degree. She'll soon start her residency in Pediatrics! Later this summer my oldest sister Roberta will submit her thesis for review so she can present her defense and attain her PhD in Conflict Resolution!! 

Whether it's a healthier life, graduating from school, or a championship trophy a new season is coming for all of us. So keep dreaming and find your path to those milestones you one day dream of.

  1. Happy B-day and congrats on your sister's graduation. We seem to have a lot in common. My B-day is the 26th and I graduate from college on June 3rd not to mention we both enjoy the best team in pro sports the "Blazers". Keep having fun and enjoy being young because 1 day you'll look up and say "where did all those years go I was just 25 wasn't I" then your kids say "your 40 silly".
