Sometimes I use the word trade when what I should be saying is "get rid of or drop the baggage" There are several players, starters and bench who are just baggage, face the truth L.A., Gerald, Wesley, Batum, Oden, and a couple rookies are all that should be on this team next year if Portland is to win in the playoffs and move forward to the next level. If we don't get rid of "baggage" there is no room for growth. Andre is over the hill, sure he can make the lob but he cannot stay in front of even Jason Kidd. Marcus only rebounds and barely plays defense or he would have 6+ blocks from the weak side every night. Rudy is far to hit and miss or he might be a great point guard. Brandon may rehab over the summer and contribute even if he plays the point a lot more then the 2 or 3 spot, it would slow down the team but not much more then Andre. In truth this team's best players are built to run and this transition offense should be taken advantage of, Patty Mills can shoot the open 3 but has proven that he cannot lead this team, he cannot buy a layup and he has been given a lot of chances but he is a shoot first type of player when we need a true point guard, so Armon should be given more of a chance at the point at least he will push the ball so Gerald, Nicolas, and Lamarcus can run more often..........         Many people will hate on what I have to say but it is the truth Lamarcus and Gerald cannot carry this team without running more often and if we are going to be over the luxury tax cap anyway we should get a true point guard who pushes the ball all of the time and a center if the team does not resign Oden, which is a move that should be made soon......  I love the Portland Trailblazers team not every individual player that makes up the team, this is a business and should be run that way. Why was Brandon Roy given such a huge contract when management knew of his massive knee problems and need for season ending surgery on both of them? Because he is a fan favorite (which he has earned) but this is not a sound business decision to give effectively a bench player the league maximum contract... "fool-hearty" at best and wishful thinking to be sure. Cho needs to run this team more like a business if he wants to win in the west let alone become NBA Champions.

  1. I don't think you could be more wrong. Good business is a happy business. Talent alone isn't going to win you a championship. If you think this team would be where it is now, in the play offs, if it wasn't for the team comradory that was built on Patty Mills, then you really don't know much about this team. "uncle cam", "lil bro" "wessywes", this team cares for each other and that is their strongest attribute. This team can contend already, and the future is bright with Elliot Williams and Greg next season. We're inches away from one of the elite teams, if we lose pretty much and two guys from this roster, and it would almost start over.

  2. i completely agree with Corey. I think your analysis of the "baggage" players is not even close. Andre is not over the hill and anyone with any amount of a basketball iq knows that. no one is asking Patty to lead the team and this is basically his rookie season -- give the kid some time and take into consideration what he does off the court; Marcus is a hell of a defender, still -- blocked shots are a minor part of defense, but changing a shot is very important and Marcus does that (6 blocks a game? the playoff leader is only averaging 3. Brandon was NOT given his contract extension when he was coming off the bench; he likely needs the off-season to get to the level he's going to get too (besides, you can't just trade that size of contract). additionally, you can't judge Brandon's future by seven weeks following surgery as he came back to an entirely different offensive scheme. granted, Rudy is a bit perplexing right now; his shot is inconsistent, however, his hustle is invaluable. look, i've read some of your blogs, and i understand you're one of those who wants to make sweeping change, but the bottom line is this: the season is still going on. no moves are going to be made until season's end (we can't even talk to Greg about his contract until July 1 under league regulations). if i may suggest something here; try looking at the big picture and do some research. imo, any blog about trades or other moves is extremely premature.
