Playoff Picture: April 8th

It’s make it or break it time.

The Trail Blazers host the L.A. Lakers tonight in the Rose Garden. Portland wants to hold on the the 6th seed in the Western Conference, but tonight’s games present a scenario that could see them fall to 7th.

Scenarios:
 - Portland win: Trail Blazers stay in 6th
 - Portland loss AND New Orleans win: Trail Blazers fall to 7th, NOLA jumps to 6th

I’m anxious to see how the Lakers play this one. With a lock for 2nd in the West will they “mail it in?” Or go all out tonight?

Decisions, decisions.

Either way it’s crucial for the Trail Blazers to BEAT LA!

Last night's scores and effects:

The  Portland Trail Blazers downed the  Utah Jazz 98-87 in Utah. Portland reclaims the 6th seed in the Western Conference and bumps New Orleans back down to 7th.



Today’s games with Western Conference potential playoff teams:

 Sacramento Kings (23-55) vs.  Memphis Grizzlies (44-34) The Grizzlies hold the 8th seed in the West. They’re one full game behind New Orleans. A win or a loss keeps Memphis in 8th. A win with a NOLA loss will tie the two in winning percentage. NOLA wins the head to head tiebreaker 2-1.

 Phoenix Suns (38-40) vs.  New Orleans Hornets (45-33) New Orleans trails Portland by only half a game. With both teams playing tonight identical outcomes will keep Portland in 6th and New Orleans in 7th. A Hornets win paired with a Trail Blazers loss causes to two to flip-flop in the standings.

 Denver Nuggets (48-30) vs.  Oklahoma City Thunder (52-26) The Thunder sit in 4th in the West and trail Dallas by one full game. They need a win tonight to keep their hopes of claiming the 3rd seed alive. If seeding stands Denver and OKC are matched-up in the first round.

L.A. Clippers (31-48) vs.  Dallas Mavericks (53-25) The Mavs are on a four-game losing streak. This is a must-win to keep their lead over Oklahoma City and maintain the 3rd seed in the West. A loss paired with a Thunder win will tie the two in winning percentage. Dallas takes the tiebreaker 2-1.

 L.A. Lakers (55-23) vs.  Portland Trail Blazers (46-33) BEAT LA! Portland needs a win to close the door on the possibility of losing the 6th seed. A loss coupled with a New Orleans win bumps the Trail Blazers to 7th and a dreaded potential matchup with the Lakers in the first round.

  1. Miss Sarah: My big question is that over at BE, it was reported that CP3 had about 44 CC's of fluid drained from his knee, will they rest him, boy I sure would, if so that would change the outcome of the play-off picture. If not that may change what he can do in the play-offs.

    Other then that, all our hopes doesn't lay on us winning tonight. That is putting undue pressure on the team. Oh, it sure would be great if we win tonight and also win out. If we can't we are still in the play-offs and we will take on whom-ever. I just want them to play great and give no implications that we are throwing the game to try to get SAS, if it is looking like we can't stay in 6Th.

    What if Dallas and OKC changes places, 6Th spot doesn't look as good then, and would OKC throw a game to avoid playing the Nuggets. What ifs, What ifs, What ifs that is why I say let the marbles fall wherever.

    But I do want to beat the Lakers. I don't care why.

  2. @HG I saw the news on CP3. With everything so close it the west I agree we don't control our own destiny. BUT I'd like to control as much as possible and go into the first round playing well.

    That starts now, so I'd say ALL pressure is due tonight and the final two games of the season.

    As for throwing games... ugh, don't even get me started.

  3. I think the kobettes will go all out to beat us - I think they would rather be matched up NOLA - with that being said - Let's go Blazers!!! Show em what we are made of in OUR HOUSE!!!! :)

  4. Please Blazers, BEAT LA! I don't think I could stand being swept by the Lakers in the regular season. It's time to send them a message in case we do meet up with them in the First Round.

  5. Miss Sarah: Oh I definitely want to go into the play-offs playing well, I would love to win out, I was just speaking of the team. It will be rough go to beat LA, If our players get uptight and choke, the game could be lost before we start. They just need to go out and play our game, If we win hip hip hooray. If not then it can't be helped. I am not arguing against you I am just taking it what if one step further. So I ask you the question. What happens if we lose tonight to the Lakers? What happens if we lose the the Grizzlies? then the GSW again? We will still be in the play-offs and give whoever a heck of a road to hoe.

    Like you I hope we can control our own destiny
