Last night was interesting.
In what should have been a blow-out on paper, the Trail Blazers narrowly escaped from San Antonio with a win. The Spurs chose to sit two of their main players, Parker and McDyess, with “injuries” that popped up at the last second.
There was some speculation their main contributors were sitting because the Spurs didn’t mind a Portland win. They simply don’t want us in the 8th seed to face them in the first round of the playoffs.
That’s flattering.
The victory last night made Portland the only team in the NBA to win a season series over San Antonio. Not a bad stat, not a bad stat at all.
Last night's scores and effects:
The
Portland Trail Blazers won the season series with a win over the
San Antonio Spurs 100-92 in San Antonio. The Trail Blazers became the first team to win a series over the Spurs this season with their victory. The win widened the gap between Portland in 6th and New Orleans in 7th to one full game. San Antonio remains in 1st place in the Western Conference.
The
Washington Wizards stunned the
Utah Jazz 100-95 in Utah. The Jazz haven’t officially been eliminated from playoff contention yet, but they’re pretty close. Their loss leaves them five and a half games behind Memphis in 8th. They remain in 11th in the West.
Tonight’s games with Western Conference potential playoff teams:
Houston Rockets (38-35) vs.
New Jersey Nets (23-49) The Rockets need a win to continue their push to the post season. They currently sit two and a half games behind Memphis in 8th. A win would narrow that gap to just two full games.
Golden State Warriors (32-42) vs.
Oklahoma City Thunder (48-24) Oklahoma City has already clinched a playoff berth and currently sit in 4th in the Western Conference. A win or a loss will keep them in the same seed. Golden State had been eliminated from playoff contention.
Phoenix Suns (36-36-) vs.
Sacramento Kings (20-52) The Suns desperately need a win to keep themselves in the race for a playoff spot. They currently sit in 10th in the West and are four full games out of the post-season. A win tonight would narrow the gap between them and Memphis in the 8th seed.
Here are the playoff match-ups as of today:
