Holy basketball Batman!
Tonight is LOADED with hoops. The bubble teams (Houston, Phoenix and Utah) have potential for movement tonight, but everyone else in the Western Conference should maintain their current playoff seeding.
Portland did just that with their stomping of the Washington Wizards last night. We remain in 6th place and sit a full game behind the Denver Nuggets in 5th and a full game ahead of the New Orleans Hornets in 7th.
As my daily scoreboard watching continues I find myself rooting for teams that help the Trail Blazers, naturally. So tonight I’ll be watching San Antonio and Denver in the late game on ESPN and rooting for a Spurs win. Which games will you be watching?
Last night's scores and effects:
The
Washington Wizards were demolished by the
Portland Trail Blazers 76-111 in Portland. With the win the Trail Blazers hold onto 6th place in the West. We’re a game behind the Denver Nuggets and a game ahead of the New Orleans Hornets.
The
Phoenix Suns fell to the
Los Angeles Lakers 137-139 in Los Angeles. In a triple-overtime thriller the Lakers pulled off a win over the ailing Suns. Phoenix is sitting in 10th and barely ahead of the Utah Jazz. (They’re tied with Utah in winning percentage and the tie is broken by Division record, which Phoenix holds just slightly.)
Tonight’s games with Western Conference potential playoff teams:
Memphis Grizzlies (39-32) vs.
Boston Celtics (50-19) Win or lose Memphis will stay in the 8th seed in the Western Conference. They currently sit two full games ahead of the Houston Rockets in 9th.
Utah Jazz (36-35) vs.
Oklahoma City Thunder (45-24) Utah needs to win to have a chance to move ahead of Phoenix and into 10th place. If Phoenix wins Utah won’t be able to jump them in the standings. The Thunder will stay in 4th with a win or a loss.
Golden State Warriors (30-41) vs.
Houston Rockets (37-34) Houston absolutely has to beat Golden State to continue their push to the playoffs. A Houston win coupled with a Memphis loss would bring the Rockets within one game of the Grizz and the final playoff seed.
Toronto Raptors (20-50) vs.
Phoenix Suns (35-34) The Suns need to get a win to stay in the hunt. Just like Houston and Utah they’re sitting on the bubble just outside the playoffs. They’re three full games behind Memphis.
San Antonio Spurs (57-13) vs.
Denver Nuggets (42-29) on ESPN I’m hoping the Nuggets bite the dust in this one. A loss for Denver will bring the Trail Blazers to within half a game of the 5th seed.
