RealGM: Blazers Earn an A- for Gerald Wallace Trade

By sarahhecht Posted in: Blazers, Bobcats, geraldwallace
We’re setting the curve Blazers fans. According to RealGM, Rich Cho and company have earned the Trail Blazers an A- in the trade for Gerald Wallace.

“The value of a player like Wallace to a team like Portland is his versatility. He can defend any wing in the league and also hold his own against a fair amount of the power forwards. The Blazers have successfully been going small with greater frequency later and playing Wallace, Batum and Matthews together at the two through four positions creates uncomfortable match-ups for opposing teams. Their collective strengths become greater than the sum of their parts if they hit all cylinders as Rich Cho predicts.” -Christoper Reina, RealGM

I couldn’t agree more.

Although the trade came at the price of some beloved Blazers, Gerald Wallace fits the mold to step right into the same realm. Marcus Camby anyone? The heart on this guy is unbelievable. We Trail Blazers fans love to see hustle and drive. He’ll leave it all on the floor. No guts no glory.

RealGM gave the Charlotte Bobcats a “B” in for the deal that sent their All-Star to Portland. I’m glad to see we came out on top.

How would you grade the trade?

  1. I previously gave it a B+ sarah, but am warming up to the idea more and more. It was brought up that Batum can guard most of the PG, and now we have somebody that can guard the SF or PF if LMA is playing the other PF spot lol.

There is so many possibilities that I get more excited by the minute, especially if my pitch goes through to re sign Joel to a minumim veteran contract and Ford after their respective teams buy out their contracts. That would give us more help with the bigs and a experience PG to help until Mills and Armon gets some whiskers. I will upgrade to a A-

  2. What a trade! I'm totally blown away by the move made by by CHO. The quiet man spoke. This trade puts the blazers in the conference finals. Mark my words.
Wallace being out of the east most likely wasn't watch very much on the west. I'm not just writing to write. I'm writing to sound the alarm. The Blazers are a new team. If the buy outs happen the Blazers stand to make a serious push this year. Everything is starting to line up. This is ten times better then the Harris trade. The Blazers have just put all other teams on (LOCK DOWN)!

  3. HO! A+ and more. This is a historic trade. CHO'S name will be in lights. We kept DRE, and we tsand to get Priz back. I'm super excited. Can't sleep! I welcome Gerald W. to the Northwest. He's going to love it!

Agreed, and next year I fully believe we will have GO back, Just let your mind focus on that and see how you feel about LOCK DOWN. We will have more adversity as we go forward; we have proven we can handle adversity; we will have our bad, ugly, and almost games, but in the end we know we will be there. Adversities are now our ally because we can handle it and the teams that hasn't had it can't even imagine how to survive, as in OKC and SAS.

  7. I'm also glad to see that we came out on top but I also like to the the B grade go to the Bobcats. Mostly because those are OUR players they received in the deal and it's nice to know that Pryz, Dante, and Sean will help their team. Thanks for the article from RealGM. Interesting.

  9. Everybody is pretty hyped up about this guy. I would be too... I wonder if anybody has thought about big guys on the bench?

I keep hearing on the Radio.. "This is great!.. now we can have a rotation where when Camby goes out, LA switches to the 5, Wallace comes in at 4 and batum rolls to the 3... That sounds great.. I guess we're not interested in REST. Especially for our big all-star... where him and Nic used to get relief from cunningham and Joel.. And now Camby will come back, and his relief will come when LA switches to the Center spot..

It's great we got another scorer.. I disagree with giving away so much "big" for it. Now, I fear we're like Orlando and D Howard, wherein, When he gets in foul trouble the team is in trouble.

All we do is complain about injuries, not having a bench, not having enough bigs to relief our starters...

I don't see those complaints stopping. There was a reason Dante always played bigger guys.. because that's what we had, when Joel was out, or Marks wasn't cutting it. Now, we have a smaller "Crash".. Just what we need, Cuz you know... our team isn't injury prone. We'll see. As usual, I the downer on the page... but again, I don't care for constant complaining in general while watching the game... let alone encouraging it, by creating a bigger problem.

I think i'll start playing a drinking game, for everytime they mention, Joel or Dante, or Rest....

Go Blazers, and Good Luck Wallace, you have alot to prove!

  10. Also Sarah-

I just wanted to point out, that I REALLY enjoy reading your blogs, and hope you take no personal offense to my "Negative" comments. They are not in response to your lovely postings. I'm just frustrated and interested in some good well rounded conversation, with other fans off the bandwagon.

Thanks for the posts, I did enjoy your other post on GW.
