Wesley selected for rookie-sophomore challenge

By Kassandra Posted in: Blazers, WesleyMatthews
Portland will be represented during the NBA's all-star weekend.

The nba today announced the rosters for the rookie-sophomore challenge and, low and behold, Wesley Matthews of the Blazers was selected as one of the guards for the sophomore team.

Wesley is averaging 16.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game this season. He is one of just two players to play in all 47 of Portland's games this season (LaMarcus is the other). He ranks 11th in the NBA in both three-point fg made (86) and three-point fg attempted (226).

There has been quite a bit of speculation on whether Wesley would be tabbed for the team on Blazer blogs and message boards. It's unclear if he will start or how many minutes he will play. The coach for the sophomores will be an assistant coach of the team with the eastern conference's best record as of feb. 6.

The other sophomores selected were guards Tyreke Evans (Kings), Stephen Curry (Warriors), DeMar Rozan (Raptors), Brandon Jennings (Bucks) and Jrue Holiday (76ers); forwards Taj Gibson (Bulls) and Serge Ibaka (Thunder); and center DeJuan Blair (Spurs).

The rookie team consists of guards John Wall (Wizards), Eric Bledsoe (Clippers), Wesley Johnson (Timberwolves), Landry Fields (Knicks) and Gary Neal (Spurs); forwards Blake Griffin (Clippers) and Derrick Favors (Nets); and centers DeMarcus Cousins (Nets) and Greg Monroe (Pistons).

The rookie-sophomore challenge will be February 18.

The league is expected to announce the reserves for the all-star game itself on Februay 3.

  1. nice stats nice stats, idk who will win my guess is the sophs with curry gibson wesley and jennings where the rookies only got two strong names in wall and griffin i thing either way griffin will get mvp, i forgot to add cousins. i think sophmores need team unity where the rooks will rely on griffin and wall to push them over the hump
