A pebble in the blog riverbed

Hello Blogger Network! Let me just say that with the likes of MB, Rice, and Wheels on here I am in no way worthy.  Blog might as well be a foreign word to me.  In school, sign me up for free form over MLA format essays any day.  So you aren't gonna get formal from me cause I don't know what a formal blog is supposed to be.  That said, I applaud the organization for innovating new ways for fans to be involved with their team. 

Portland fans are recognized as some of the best, most loyal and so forth.  The Rose Garden is a formidable presence for our team's opponents on any given night.  A lot of Blazer fans are more faithful to and forgiving of their team than they are to a spouse and we haven't had a ring from our Blazers in a while. :)  But not many Blazer fans hold that against the team.  We may even be more devoted to them in their "hard-knocks life" form.  Witnessing this team rally against the odds is something to behold.  There is simply no straw to break this camel's back.

I rarely quote Jeff Foxworthy, but you know you're a Blazer's fan if you wince when someone says "knee" or cringe at the three letters MRI.  Through all these potentially crippling obstacles to our team's stability, the fan base has remained intact.  A solid bedrock for the team to stand on.  Oh I'm not deaf, I've heard the fair-weather fans offereing everyone up for trade from GM to coach to players.  But can you imagine what the Miami Heat fans would be doing in our shoes?  We have handled the challenges with a certain level of grace, taking our cue from the players and organization.

In a moment of weakness we may cry out "Why us?!"  But we go out and buy a Patty Mills jersey the next day.  So stay strong Blazer Nation.  The vow is "in sickness and in health".

  1. Welcome! Great blog minimegstew. I agree that being a fan is like taking a marriage vow. You stick to it. The Jeff Foxworthy pun was gold, I really do cringe at that word and those letters.

    Blog is short for weblog, which is really just a fancy word for journal. If you write MLA in your journal go for it here, but if not, that's great too! We want to hear YOUR voice.

  3. well put ripcitydeux. you could not have voiced it better. I am so with you on those two words we hear...i tried to take for the team the other night with my knees but it did not work. ty blazers for giving us things to do as fans. long time fan and i do stick with them thru thick and thin. these a great bunch of guys what is not to love about them? yea defintely having my patty jersey...cant wait to read more...

  4. hey minimegstew! you're so right. as much as the rest of the league and networks want to ignore us and push us to the side, they always give the fans credit for being dedicated to our team. at least we get credit for that!
