My How To Hints =D

By Veronica
I can't tell you all how much fun it is to be part of the game day experience! Before fans arrive there is a humming in the Rose Garden, almost like it's waiting for the action to start. Blazers fans fill the arena night after night and it's an incredible feeling to take the floor for such a high energy crowd! Being a member of the Blazers Dancers team is one of the best experiences of my life thus far. Dancing for an NBA team can be some of the best training a commercial dancer can have. We learn from various choreographers and perform a number of diverse dance styles. Most of my teammates and I juggle full or part time jobs with school, our game schedule, practice schedule, appearance schedule and personal lives. Time management is very important to stay balanced and organized. It's a lot of hard work and we take a great deal of pride in our team and performance.

Since my MADE episode aired I've gotten a number of emails about what it takes to be a professional dancer and I think each team looks for something a little different but here are my two cents ;)

1. Be confident and let your personality shine! As a performer we all have unique styles so identify your strengths and showcase them to the best of your ability.
2. Take dance classes to strengthen your technique and learn new skills.
3. Work on your overall look. Try new make up and hair styles to see what looks best on you.
4. Take pride in your physical fitness and be healthy.
5. Teams look for well rounded performers so try some Jazz or Hip Hop :-D
but most importantly.....
6. Be yourself! Above anything else represent who you are to the fullest!

If dancing professionally is a dream of yours keep auditioning and keep your eyes open. Each year I see people I can learn from and little things that I can improve on. It's not as easy as most people think so don't give up.  Most of what we want in life we have to fight for so give it all you've got!

All the best,

  1. what amazes me is how you juggle all those things and make them work, especially the other things which come with a schedule of their own.

  2. A passion for performing makes the juggling act worth it =) I set a goal, weigh the cost against how it enhances my life and if it all balances out then I go for it! Thanks for the support =)
