Tonight's game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Sacramento Kings once again had officials in a place to make a correct call, and instead they blew an obvious call which helped San Antonio win. To make matters worse, the call came (or should I say didn't come) with 1.7 seconds left in the game.

At the very end of the game, Michael Finley shoots a 3 point shot that goes in with 1.7 seconds left and putting the Spurs up by 3. The problem though, is that the shot clock had OBVIOUSLY expired almost a full second earlier. How this was not detected by ANY of the 3 officials the NBA employs is beyond comprehension.

The NBA MUST do what is right and correct this mistake. With things being so close in the Western Conference playoff standings, an obvious mistake like this gives San Antonio an unfair advantage, and makes the NBA seem as though they are okay with this unfair advantage given. The NBA MUST have the teams replay the final 1.7 seconds of the San Antonio game. This would not be a precedent either as last season the NBA had the final 25 seconds of the Suns Raptors game replayed after the statkeeper accidentally fouled Shaquille O'Neal out when he only had 5 fouls.

The NBA MUST make it apparent that they do not condone OBVIOUS officiating mistakes, especially ones that determine games so drastically as the final call in the San Antonio/Sacramento game on 4/12/2009. The NBA needs to right this wrong, and the right way to do it is to replay the final seconds of the game and possibly an overtime. Nothing else would be truly fair and thus would make the NBA okay with obvious bad officiating.

  1. I totally agree, however, the argument will come that Sacramento had their opportunities through out the game to not be in the position for that 3 to make that much difference. Accidents happen. Again, I agree with you, but the problem is what we believe is strictly hypothesis based on observations where as the 5 fouls is actually an official piece of physical evidence.

  2. It sucks, but all we have to do is take care of business vs OKC and Denver ,and HCA is ours..not to mention GSW could beat the Spurs tonight and all is well. Jus be thankful it didn't happen in a more meaningful game!
