We only have 8 under contract: Lillard, Aldridge, Batum, Mathews, Barton, Leonard, Freeland and Claver. And Pavlovic unguaranteed contrat , that i believe will be waived....

I believe we will sign all our draft picks this year, Mcollum, Withey and Crabbe, that makes 11.

Plus the trades that bring R. Lopez, T-Rob  and T. Harris (that i think will be waived), makes 13....

I think we still have 2 spots to fill, at PG and SF.

Dorrel Wright would be a good fit as backup SF

At backup PG i really dont have any favourite...

Yes, and I think most of us are upset. I personally would rather have him starting than Lopez. Still, JJ was a write off until Stotts got his hands on him. Now he's one of the best rebounders, and has a truly good mid range jumpshot, and isn't Smooving all over the place.

Nuno nailed it, minus Withey. ; )  Current roster is 12, with team option on Pav, and Harris likely to be waived.  The bench was the biggest issue for Portland, and I like the moves Olshey has made thus far to address that area.  Definitely not upset.

Let me play devils advocate here for a moment. As much as i love LaMarcus,do you think Neil now reaches back out to Chicago to entertain the thought of Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler for L.A. ? And still have the ability to retain JJ Hickson ? The money factor in all of this is not my area of expertise, but if it could be done, should we ? And does a move like this give us a more uptempo brand of basketball ?

    Lillard, McCollum
    Barton, Matthews, Crabbe
    Batum, Claver
    Freeland, Aldridge, Robinson
    Lopez, Leonard

I think we need to move Freeland and get someone like Matt Barnes to play SF. Otherwise it looks like we got a full 12 man roster. I imagine Pavlovic and Harris will be waived.

Based on my calculations we should have 2 million in cap space and our room exception.

We need a 3rd PG, a upgrade at SF and perhaps a 3rd C. Mostly though we need D-League fodder since only 12 can dress.

I am much more optimistic about Claver.  Freeland and Barton are the 2 I am most concerned about.

Portland still had room to got get 2 solid guys with the remaining cap 3-4 mil, and  Room exception.  D. Wright and J. Oneil would do it for me.

For less than $600,000 a year Barton is an excellent player who exceeds the level of play that we pay him for. He rebounds and scores he can't play defense though. But for less then 600 with potential if he actually worked on his game over the summer could be 6th man material.  I'm low on claver and freeland because they just can not put the ball in the basket. Claver can play decent D but for what we pay neither the two are worth the money and should be sent to d league in order to offer a bigger contract to a back up sf and sign roster fillers at the rest of the positions. Maybe bring back Nolan to be the 3rd string pg for us.

I don't quite understand the thinking that comes with LA being traded to Chicago for anything less then Noah and some. Taj Gibson and Butler in exchange for one of the best forwards in the game? Hell no. I love Barton for his passion and swagger. Im not completely sold on the thought of Claver actually being able to contribute but I'm sure hoping he proves me wrong.

Schwabbi the deal would be Butler, Gibson, and the Bobcats owed pick for LA. So you are talking about a up and coming SF, a defensive big in Gibson and a likely lottery pick as soon as 2014.

That is 3 pieces for one that is a pretty good haul.

A back up PF, a SF with "potential" and an unknown 1st round pick for our All-Star.  If Taj Gibson is a defensive big, then Robin Lopez is an All-Star center. It's a haul of manuer with 2 years left on LAs contract.

I think our immediate need is a back up SF, as for a 3rd PG might as well keep Nolan Smith he knows the system and he isnt going to get any minutes our offer might be the best he is going to get. Everybody is high on Claver , I don't see it. Him being our option behind Batum is scary, it is last year all over at that position. Barton and Claver are big gambles. I would like to see someone in there that can put up more points than turnovers which Claver could not do at the end of last season. His defense was better than anyone on the bench but that is like saying your the skinniest kid in fat camp. We need a better option at SF I am not much outside of the Blazers  but there has to be someone other than Claver and Babbit that can come in behind Batum.

Since we are pretty much out of cap space, I would try and sign Carlos Delfino. Signing shooters is obviously a priority for this team and at 37.5% Delfino is still dangerous from downtown. Cory Brewer is another option but his 29% three point shooting is a poor fit in an offense built around the three.

What flexibility do we have left?  MLE?  Is there anything we can use to sign a 3rd pg?  Billups?  I think we are out of cap space after we signed Dorell Wright.  Our team is really taking shape and barring a trade it seems pretty set as of now.  Maybe a pg will show up in the summer league who would come to us cheap.  What do you think?

@ sedare, more like... POOF!  Noel up & disappeared like a fart in the wind & I'm ok w/ this ;)  I didn't want him bak; there r good choices for cheap out there; I could c us getting a guy like A.j. Price.  I'd like 2 c Will Bynum join us! :)   It will take somewhere around ~$3million/yr. to get Will; I think he'd take a $2.5/yr. for 2 years BUT DEFINITELY for 3 ;)  Let's use the $2.6million room exception to sign Will & then what we have under the cap to sign O'Neil (he made w/ PHX $854,389/yr.); so IDK how much $ we have now but it should b enough to pay O'Neil right?

Another possibility (it doesn't really address the center position) is bringing in Aaron Brooks since Houston waived him to make room for Howard. He's an Oregon guy. He scores better than Watson and might be good when we need an offensive-minded bench guard in the game. He would also be insurance if CJ ends up playing more 2 than PG.

Dwight Jaynes brought up Jason Collins as an option for the Blazers. I would like the pick up and he's certainly a guy that would be happy with the vet minimum and probably the culture in Portland. I don't know how much he could bring to the team besides a guy to help the other bigs develop. Maybe that's all we're looking for? Is an empty roster spot more valuable than anything we can get with the room exception?

I think if they're looking for someone to fill the 15th spot besides Terrel Harris, then yeah, that probably is all we'd be looking for (someone to help mentor the bigs). I still think I'd prefer trying to bring back Marcus Camby over Jason Collins (has a history here, likes it here still, better mentor type from what I've seen, and probably better production if we need him on the floor), but don't know if it's doable at all as far as the books go.

I guess they're saying Olshey also has a habit of keeping a spot open on the roster? Makes sense for flexibility, since things can always come up later and that way we wouldn't have to ditch someone, but we'll see...

My only issue with Camby (would love to see him back too) is that we have to give something up to get him, and Olshey already traded all our 2nd round picks until about 2050, for good assets. I just don't think we have anyone/anything that we could/should give up for Camby.
