Look at the facts ladies and gentlemen we are not contenders and we are not just a good center away from being contenders. With someone like DeAndre Jordan the Blazers are back in the playoffs but once they arrive the team would have virtually no chance to advance. I am not happy just making the playoffs anymore and neither should you be. So here is a pathway for the Blazers to get back on track.

    Step 1. Trade Nicolas Batum

Batum has skills but he is too expensive right now for this team and he plays at the NBA's deepest position so replacing him will not be difficult at all.

Portland trades Nicolas Batum to the Cavaliers

Cleveland trades the #1 pick to the Trailblazers

Note I do not know how much value Batum has for the Cavaliers but he is a perfect fit at arguably their weakest position. He can pass and shoot from beyond the arc, which will provide valuable spacing for Irving and Waiters to attack the basket. He is also a solid defender. Batum's trade kicker is a potential deal breaker, so getting him to waive that will be essential otherwise Portland would likely need to give up the #10 pick as well. They also might need to do that depending on how much the Cavs value Batum. Plus his contract even with the trade kicker would leave 31 million to go after Lebron next summer.

    Step 2. Trade LaMarcus Aldridge

LA thinks he is Batman but he is just not that kind of player. I like LA a lot but honestly right now his trade value has to be taken advantage of. In 2015, free agent bigs are right now dominating the market. We are looking at Love, Aldridge, B. Lopez, M. Gasol, O. Asik, R. Hibbert, Deandre Jordan and Tyson Chandler as all potential free agents that is monster list which will only lower LA's trade value after this year.

Portland trades Lamarcus Aldridge, Rights to Kostas Papanikolaou, Will Barton and picks #39 and #40 to the Bulls

Chicago trades Charlotte owed first round pick (Tyrus Thomas trade), Taj Gibson, Richard Hamilton, and Jimmy Butler to the Blazers.

The Bobcats pick is likely a guaranteed lottery pick and Gibson and Butler are great pieces to add some depth to this team. LA fits perfectly with the Bulls and allows them the option to trade or amnesty Boozer. LA would give the Bulls a real #2 scorer and would be scary in pick and roll with Rose. Plus he is athletic enough and smart enough to be able to play within the Bulls defense.

    Step 3. Use your assets

Portland trades picks #1, #10 and #45 to the Bucks

Milwaukee trades Larry Sanders to the Blazers.

Defense wins championships and Larry Sanders plays defense with the best of the league. He is a valuable piece but being able to add two lottery picks for him is a big haul for the Bucks and would give them a lot of options on how to deal with Jennings and Ellis this summer.

Portland trades 3 million to the Spurs, Thunder or Nuggets.

San Antonio, Oklahoma City or Denver trades pick #28, #29 or #27 to the Trailblazers.

The Spurs and Nuggets are very deep so they might be willing to sell a pick for cash especially in this draft. OKC drafts at #12 so they also might be willing to give up a pick for cash. I do not know if the picks are for sale but it certainly behooves the Blazers to at least try.

Portland needs depth in this free agency but not to spend much so that they can make a big splash in 2014 or 2015.

    Step 4. Free Agency

Portland signs Quincy Pondexter SG/SF to a 2 year $6 million dollar deal. He is a tough defender and can stretch the floor with his perimeter shooting.

Portland signs Jermaine O'Neal PF/C to a 2 year $5 million dollar deal. His veteran leadership will be important in helping Leonard and Sanders to continue to improve, plus at his age it would be easy to take minutes away from him as needed.

Portland resigns Eric Maynor PG to a 2 year $6 million dollar deal. Returning from injury Maynor looked solid but never lived up to the expectations that OKC had for him which is why he was dealt. This is a low risk high reward kind of move.

Portland resigns Elliot Williams SG to a 2 year $3 million dollar deal. Injuries have destroyed him but his upside if healthy makes him a great low risk high reward kind of player.

    Portland Roster Update

    PG Damian Lillard

    PG Eric Maynor

    SG Wesley Matthews

    SG Elliot Williams

    SG Richard Hamilton

    SF Jimmy Butler

    SF Victor Claver

    SF Quincy Pondexter

    PF Taj Gibson

    PF Jermaine O'Neal

    PF Joel Freeland

    C Larry Sanders

    C Meyers Leonard

This team will not win 50 games next year nor do I want them too. This roster is about improving as a team building a good system and landing a premium rookie with our pick and hopefully a second with the Bobcats pick. Julius Randle, Jabari Parker, Marcus Smart, Andrew Wiggins or maybe a surprise player could really improve this team heading into 2015. Imagine Portland adds Andrew Wiggins next summer and then picks up Kevin Love, Lamarcus Aldridge, or Marc Gasol in 2015, Portland would finally have a legit NBA title contender for years.

    What do you all think?

No to trading Lamarcus. He fits perfectly in this team. He fits perfectly in most teams. And if 2015 is such a good class of big men, why would the Bulls take him. His trade value is high, because he is a two time all star and the second best PF in the league. Best if Timmy retires. We don't have to overhaul our entire roster to win.

Granted I do not know how we will get good players, but it's not my job. I can live with trading Batum, even though I like him very much. Don't trade Lamarcus, ever. I agree one hundred percent with your free agency ideas, just think Quincy might be a little more expensive, and might want to stay with the Grizzlies.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

I just don't like the Larry sanders trade mclemore is a beast I'd love to get him I think Leonard givin the starting job for the hole year he would grow as a player and be a good starting center

    Lilliard maynor

    Mclemore wes

    Butler claver

    Taj Gibson  oneal

The Bulls are trying to win big now. That is why they would take him. Pair him with a healthy Rose, Deng and Noah and that got a real shot at contending.

Oladipo has a much higher floor and ceiling than Mclemore if you are going to take a 2 guard then he would be the target but I think getting an elite defensive center is more important.

You could sub Matthews for #10 pick but I think his leadership on this young team would be more valuable. Plus then the Bucks could take someone like Noel and Muhammad to replace Ellis and Sanders.

i don't like it. we should keep batum, aldridge, damian, wesley, leonard, and barton. with the 10th pick i would draft mccollum. in the 2nd round we should draft southerland, he got a chance to be danny green, and draft cj leslie. in the fa i would go after o'neal for 2 year and 1.5 per year million deal. patrick mills for 3 year and 1 per year million deal. sign Quincy Pondexter to 4 year and 5 million per year. with 3.5 million left we should sign elton brand to 4 year and 3.5 million per year.

    lillard/mccollum/mills

    wesley/southerland/barton

    batum/pondexter/leslie

    aldridge/brand/claver

    leonard/o'neal/freeland

this team would be the future for our team plus we would have a northwest version of a splash brother 3 in lillard, wesley, and mccollum. we would be on fire from the 3-point land, we have southerland that can spread the floor and make a wide open 3-pointer

I am a fan of Damian Lilard leading us to a title and MVP to him, LA and MEYERS

Defense wouldnt be an issue with that team. But Damain would be the only player you can depend on for at least 15+ points.

We would have to hope to grab a really good player with Charlottes pick. I don't' see after doing all that work we will be any closer to a championship. Its a team full of role players we wouldn't have anyone to help out Damian.

The Batum trade would be good and acquiring Sanders, don't know if Cavs and Bucks agree to those.

SF, SG, PF rotation is pretty mediocre.

I don't like that trade for Aldridge. What is the details on the Charlotte pick?? How is it protected? Taj Gibson is average, Butler is nice.

Hello, Siccolo, what about our two time all star, only 20 and 9 player last year Lamarcus Aldridge. We could depend on him for 15+ a night. And either Batum or Matthews will get it. Very rarely they both are cold. We would also have a solid bench so it's okay if they are.

Charlotte pick has same protect as what we owe them top 8 next season then top 6 in 2015 and unprotected in 2016. With a good pick in next years loaded lottery Portland would vastly improve. Adding any one of the projected top 4 and Portland gets better right away. Parker is being compared to Carmelo Anthony, Wiggins to Pippen, Smart to Harden, Randle to Webber, Young and Harrison I do not know a lot about but both are projected top 10 at SG.

This team would be in a position to add one piece and become an immediate contender.

CMEESE47 has said it right.  We must trade Batum.  He is not worth the $11M we have to pay him.  The Cav's may be holding out hope that LeBron comes back.  Bottom line Batum must go.

Trade LA now or potentially lose him to FA in two years.  LA is gone unless we are contending in two years which is not possible.  He will probably go to Dallas his home town.

Batum and LA must be on the trading block as they can bring us assets now.

So we wouldn't get Charlottes pick till 2016. Charlotte will most likely grab " Parker is being compared to Carmelo Anthony, Wiggins to Pippen, Smart to Harden, Randle to Webber"

Wouldnt that mean that the Bobcats would become title contenders? Then they're pick would be pretty bad...

Lamarcus Aldridge for Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler and a bad pick is a terrible deal for a 2 time all star 20 and 9  guy.

    Also

Greg Oden had Bill Russel comparisons, Remember "Suck for Shabazz" now that dude is falling out of the lottery.

Look at the facts if we make it in to the top 5 of next years draft the odds of drafting an all-star are quite high. Since 2000 draft only 2010 and 2012 have not had an all-star in top 5. Of course that will likely change soon as Davis and Wall could make the leap this year.

In fact most years average at least 2 all stars.

This team would have enough cap space to give Sanders the rookie max if needed after last season and then could either offer in 2014 or 2015 a max deal to LA, Love, Hibbert, Gasol or someone else.

    Just look at this lineup

    Lillard

    Maynor

    Butler

    Wiggins/ Parker/ Randle

    Sanders

    Leonard

    Gibson

    Pondexter

That leaves the team 8 players deep

now add in LA, Love, Hibbert, Gasol or another free agent and the team is 9 players deep

Lastly add in a likely lottery pick from the bobcats and we are 10 deep.

At this point Lillard is likely an all-star Wiggins, Randle or Parker are becoming one and LA, Love, Hibbert or Gasol are all former all stars.

That team would likely compete for years.

We don't but u can't bank on it but hey a month into college season it's lookin that way tank your asses of blazers get a top 5 pick :) but most these kids comin out of hs aren't going against other elite players every night so they look a lot better than they are and a lot more hyped up then they should be I hope it's like 2003 id gladly add another star superstar to lillard but not very likely

I think we could make our team a contender right this year.

Trade Wes + 10th + K. Papa to Milwaeke for Larry Sanders.

Sign Iguodala for 10M. + around 9M in cap and RE, + 3 2nd rounders to fill the bench. Draft Nate Wolters and James Southerland, and stash Boris Dubljevic, then sign Elton Brand 4M, Randy Foye 5M and with the RE resign Maynor, and O´neal for the vet min.

    Lineup

PG: Lillard / Maynor / Wolters

SG: Iguodala / Foye / Barton

SF: Batum / Claver / Southerland

PF: Alridge / Brand / Freeland

    C: Sanders / Leonard / O´neal

This would make us contenders right away! Dont you think?

Sanders is worth a lot more to the Bucks than that package. So you need to rethink that strategy.

Kostas P and pick 39 and 40 could land Marion and pick #13 from the Mavs. That would give us two decent picks to throw at them. I still think the original trade is the best option but adding Marion and an extra pick would not be bad.

Milwaukee knows Sanders is better than any center in this draft. NO reason to trade a elite young center for picks in a bad draft. They wont give him up for anything. Same reason Detroit isn't giving up Drummond. Thats like Cavs trading Kyrie for picks, or us trading Lillard for picks.

Siccolo, congrats on 1000 posts, you officially have no life when the NBA season is over, I will be joining you soon. And not sold on Gobert. Not even interested really. Adams is much better.

I am a fan of Raymond Felton. Haha, seriously though I'm a fan of Batum's Lobs and JJ's Slams.

Gobert is more valuable to the team then Adams. He can play both the C/PF roles and his wingspan will surely mess with shooters/rebounders. A plus side is that pairing him with Nico you have a great French blocking duo.

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
