Huge waste of cash.  We'd be better off giving that money to 2 players making the veteran's minimum.

How much impact are you thinking Oden will have?  He hasn't gone full speed in years and when he did, he was glass.  5 million bucks in a suit at the end of the bench has zero impact.  Any live body that can suit up is better so pick any 2....

I do not have a problem with giving Oden $5m per year. As long as it is structure as a $500K base and $548781 for every ten games played.  Works out to he is getting paid $54878.05 per game.

With that deal I would sign him.  But do not give him guarenteed money.

How much guaranteed money did we blow on him his first four years.  he is till damaged goods and any time that signs him and guatantee's his money deserves what they get.  I would love a halthy, NBA game time Oden.   Peope say he looks great, however that is a lot different playing in a NBA game.  Anyone can look great working out.  Do not be deceived folks by looks, his knees cannot handle a NBA Gane.

Still working him out is different than Game time.  Any team that signs him shoould put a BIG condition in the contract that he must play in summer league and if after summer league he has a examination (I mean thorough) of his knee's then he will get a contract at Veteran's min, and then the contract I layed out above with bonuses based on  games played.

If he does not pass the examination, then no contract.

Noel will be just fine the problem with Roy and Oden was the Blazers training staff and doctors in Colorado. That dude is a complete hack. Blake Griffin, Tom Brady went to a doctor in LA and they look fine, Adrian Peterson went to the Andrews clinic and he had a career yet.

Know why Noel will be fine he went a good doctor in James Andrews.

Lets not forget that Oden had a deffective cartlige in College and yes the Blazers missed that diagnosis prior to drafting him: (see article link below). Doubtful Oden knew but if Ohio State had a great Orthopedic Doctor's they should have caught this too.

Now I have a  question, GHow do you blame degerating knees on the Blazers Trainers and Medical Staff.  Don't forget that that Brandon had a history of injuries prior to the NBA so this won is on Pritchard for knowing this and drafting him.

They has a specialist come in 2008 and say flat out that Oden and Roy were going to have knee issues. If you know the knees are going to be a potential issue then as a training staff you need to work on strengthening that area, healing it and helping it stay healthy. Roy and Oden went to hell under the Blazers training staff and both left the league years before they probably needed too.

Furthermore, look how many knee injuries we have had lately somewhere around 10, which is the same amount that the Oregon Ducks have had despite having 5 times more players and playing a far more physical game. Furthermore, 8 of these 10 were non contact injuries. I am not sure if they were preventable, or not but it is the trainers and team doctors job to identify these issues before acquiring certain players. In addition there have been a ridiculous number of reoccurring injuries that happened to this team over that past few seasons.

You can blame bad luck if you want but Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson, and Blake Griffin's knees all seem fine right now. Dejuan Blair is like 270 pounds and pretty much bone on bone and he is still playing. Oden, Roy, are not and Pryzbilla is likely done as well, which makes three Blazers who never recovered from knee injuries, that is a lot in 5 years.

Joakim Noah has had his injury troubles. His crazy game and high energy make him a constant injury threat. What separates him from Oden and Rose (I had to just mention him) is his willingness to play the way he loves.

I think he would much better if he would adapt his style to allow him to stay fully fit for 82 games but that seems beyond him at this stage. Oden I think will be more careful. If he can get up the court to grab offensive rebounds and get down down it to help on defense for 15-18 mins a night then I say we should grab him.

Paying him guaranteed money will ensure that he signs for us. I think if we guarantee him 1mil over 2 years and pay him for every 10 games he plays it will be fair. 500k is not a lot of money and it will be like a vets minimum on the payroll. And Oden would fit that role of a defensive center with the size and strength to bother opposition players and provide weak side help for our aggressive wing defenders.

    42 game $1,000,000 deal.

Option of earning an extra $500,000 - Oden must average 8+ PPG and 5+ RPG, or something along those lines.

That gives him incentive to play hard, low risk / high reward for the Blazers. I wouldn't be opposed to this.

The question is, does Olshey feel comfortable gambling his career on signing Oden? I think not.

Hey everyone. Haven't said much since the end of the season but was doing some draft review.  I am dead set against Shabazz.  Don't care for his attitude or his defense.  Wes is a much better option at this point.  Having said that, I am very interested in Gorgui Dieng.  He has a high motor and excellent position and off ball defense.  He shows soft hands but a penchant for mixing it up in the middle. In that respect he reminds me of the Kenneth Faried of this year's draft. He reminds a grat deal of Marcus Camby with his great defense, rebounding and excellent passing out of the high post. He would provide an excellent balance to Myers who displays good offensive touch but seems reluctant to bang inside.  He is light on his feet and positions himself excellently unlike Myers who is frequently off balance and out of position.  The only issue I see is that number 10 spot might be a little high.  We may wish to trade down for an extra late round pick.  What do the rest of you think?

Here is a video to whet your appetite.

I'm with you on Getting Dieng. He seems to be the guy in the draft who best suits our need for a good defender at the 5 spot. I think we could trade down and get him. Maybe trading Freeland and a 2nd round with the 10th pick for Boston's 16th pick and Chris Wilcox. Wilcox has a cheap contract and can play in the front court. He brings toughness to the floor and would have learned a great deal about defense from KG and Doc Rivers.

Boston will also get 2 good picks and can add youth to their aged roster.

Dieng would probably not be available at 16 but I think he would be at 12. Take some cash and throw in an expiring contract for a solid bench banger and we could have a good deal IMHO.

On the other hand, is #10 too high for a solid defensive stopper at the rim?  I don't think so.  Just draft him at 10.  We took Myers at 11 last year and Dieng should be as good if not better in a much weaker draft.

Dieng is definitely a guy who will be in demand because of his established defensive game. I wouldn't have a terrible issue taking him at 10. But if in a perfect world, we'd get CJ McCollum at 10 and trade our 2nd round picks plus one promising player for the 14th pick from Utah and grad Dieng then.

I must note however, that Olshey has said he would trade for a more established an experienced Center. I doubt we would draft Dieng if this move comes off

Well after looking at other mock drafts, Dieng might be there at 16. Steven Adams has seemed to rise up to take Diengs place in the lottery. A lot of people are high on Adams and think he will be a huge reward. Im more on Diengs side

Adams looks pretty good. He has size and strength, but I don't think he is as good defensively as Dieng which is why Dieng would be a better fit for us right now. I see the thunder taking Adams with the 12th pick and having him back up Perkins for the coming season.

I wouldnt mind trying to make a move for Collison from the thunder to be our backup C. He was key in their run last year and his experience would be invaluable on our young squad
