Sanders is probably the best player on the Bucks I just hope the franchise still considers Ellis or Jennings more important.

Pieces are a collective thing though, if you have a complete team deep everywhere you're going to have role players. On paper the Lakers should have won a championship this year but well.....I'll wait to judge the final product championship wise after the roster is full going into the season. The Miami Heat won last year without a great starting center. Pistons did it in 2004, Celtics did it with Perkins whose not an elite center. There are a lot of factors beyond individual talent that lead to championships.

Ah come on man, maybe you missed the lead up to the season but virtually every sports writer, analyst, media figure had the Lakers crowned champions of the West before they played a game. It was a huge buzz smothering all the NBA sites you could find with Nash, Howard, Bryant, Gasol and Feta World Cheese on the same team. Then Portland kicked their butts on opening night, they lost a bunch, fired a coach and barely made the playoffs only to get creamed once they were there. Back to my point here, teams, champions are built, not bought

A healthy Steve Nash, healthy Dwight Howard, healthy Kobe Bryant and the Lakers finish between 3-6 and they win their first round match up.

I have said this many times before, I will say it again. I hate Kobe, and now that D12 went to LA, I don't like him as well. Kobe is a petulant little child who screams and shouts and throws a tantrum on court when he doesn't get a call, and the refs call it for him. He might me the second best SG to ever play, but because of the way he is, I have no respect for him.

yeah, but they were healthy and  couldn't push the ball. Kobe broke down taking it on his own body to limp into the playoffs and we beat them with fresh legs in game 1...sorry, the Lakers were an expensive disfunctional mess. you really think Jeff Van Gundy, Steve Kerr, Charles Barkley ,Brent Barry, Steve Smith, Kenny Smith, Reggie Miller  etc....are idiots and fanboys? Jeesh man.....is there anything you respect about the sport? I stand by my point, you build championship teams and don't buy them. Nash was healthy at the start of the season, so was Kobe and Gasol and Meta....Howard was recovering..he was also going against a rookie and a small forward..we beat them. no frickin' excuses. So did a lot of teams.

I'm with you on that one hey River. Championship teams are built. The Spurs teams that won titles had great balance. The Bulls had Jordan, but he hadn't won anything before he had Pippen and those great role players. I think we need to understand that this team is already in place to compete. Now it's about getting the right pieces to help us contend for the top 4 seeds.

Detroit in 2004 were not extremely talented, yet the way they played for each other and gave teams a hard time on in the half court made them tough to beat. They had a good closer in Billups and a tough feisty wing defender in Prince. And no matter how tough it is to admit, they had the toughness of both Ben and Sheed Wallace... A veteran team with the will to win... And that team was built around a good winning culture.

2004 Pistons are kinda like this years Nuggets. Only because they don't have a superstar yet found success, even if they lost in the first round. Do you guys think Karl deserved Coach of the Year, lot of people think Mark Jackson, but George Karl was the right choice.

Even the Spurs today, most well balanced squad I have ever seen. Spurs, 2004 Pistons, and 2000-2001 Kings, best TEAMS ever.

Big difference between the Pistons and Nuggets. The 2004 Pistons was an amazing defensive unit, Ben Wallace was a monster. They destroyed the Lakers with smothering team defense, with game 2 being the only exception.

The Spurs have always played solid defense but there offensive efficiency is what won them the 2005 title.

To win an NBA title teams need elite defenders Portland has none. Batum and Matthews are good defenders but not elite.

A difference that stuck out to me about Denver and Detroit of 04 was that Detroit had All Star players who can have a superstar impact for several amount of games because you have to have someone to play at a superstar level to win a championship and Rip, Billups and Sheed had that ability, while Denver had a couple of players that can be All Stars but, none of them couldn't match the level of play that Steph Curry played with and that was one of the reason why I wasn't so high on Denver in the playoffs as everyone else was you have to have someone who can play at a superstar level and no one I saw on Denver played with that superstar impact it's great to play as a team but, someone has to be the man.

Two ways to look at making a team, building like the Spurs(what we have to do) or calling up your friends and buying the team like the Heat. And the Lakers were a mess the first half of the season, but looking at just after the All-Star break they actually had the 4th best record in the league.

The Lakers were a very talented team without any chemistry and that hurt them until the all star break.

Our squad in Portland was a team with good talent and lots of uncertainty and that showed when things went south toward the end of the season. After a good offseason, our players will develop better chemistry and will understand the Stotts system better.

Now we have to get some players to help us on the defensive end and will fit into our offense. Guys like Dorrell Wright and maybe a passing big man like Spencer Hawes. Hawes is a 7 footer who can step out to the 3 point line and has a big mans demeanor on defense.

Hawes does play a bit away from the basket on offense, but defensively he would help us. About attacking the glass, LA will need to do some of it and so will Hawes. The cant both play too far from the basket at one time. Aldridge is already a better than good offensive rebounder and if we can get Oneal, he would be able to help on that end too. He doesn't stray to far from the basket and can play both the PF and C position.

Ronnie Brewer is a good defender and he was key for the Bulls when they had that 60 win season in 2010-2011... He made their second unit a defensive juggernaut and he has the length to guard guys out on the perimeter and bother opposition scorers. Kobe, Wade, Durant all have had Brewer guard them and he has been better than decent when matched up with them.

He isn't getting minutes in OKC and I think we can get him quite easily. He could play the SG and SF and if he can add some consistency to his shot, he would be a gem.

i think portland might need hawes, i forgot about him. he would be like a meyers leonard on this team but with consistency and defense. if we sign both ronnie brewer and tony allen and jarrett jack and mills to vet min., we can become a no.4 -no.6 in the west. and we sign o'neal to vet min.

    lillard/jack/mills

    allen/wesley/barton

    batum/brewer/claver

    aldridge/dieng/o'neal

    hawes/leonard/o'neal

draft dieng. we sign jack to 3 years and 6 million per year, allen to 4 years and 6 million per year. we trade freeland, 2 2nd round pick for hawes. then sign brewer to 3 year and 800k per year. sign mills to 4 years and 400k per year. trade 1 2nd round pick for 1 million cash. we got about 1 million left, we can sign o'neal to 3 years and 1 million per year. we got a team that can make it to the west finals next year. we got it get this kind of a team

The more I think about a bench combo guard that's not breaking the bank, I think maybe Tyreke Evans would be the guy. Jack, Reddik, Kevin Martin are all expensive. Problem is Tyreke wants to be a starter and grumbled in Sac coming off the bench. Tony Allen is going to get big offers from a lot of teams and as good as he is, I wouldn't overpay for him. I think it's a given that we're going to spend money for an elite center. A lot depends upon the development of guys we have under contract now and whether Elliot Williams returns healthy and able to give some punch off the bench. Given Olshey's history with the Clips, I would'nt be surprised if he talks to Bledsoe either. That will be contingent upon Paul returning to the Clips as much as anything. cmeese has a great blog with my favorite projected roster on the blog site that retains our core and is deep. On his list is Lou Amundsen who LaMarcus has mentioned in the past is a guy he'd like to play next to at some point. Amundsen is a rebounder and defender that's cheap and not expensive. Check out cmeese's blog, it's one of the best lineups I've read here.

I guess it depends on how you define "elite center" ..there just aren't many these days that don't cost 20mil I do think we'll get a center that fills our need in the paint. Might not be a high scoring guy but I'd be happy with a rebounding shot blocker.

The rebounding shot blocker is the new age elite centre. I asked a question about centres on Blazers Edge and that was the response, and I think it makes sense. NBA works in cycles, like the world. Soon, with so many shot blocking centres who can't play actual D, someone will find that one elite defensive guy, and then they will pop out of nowhere and that will become the elite big.

Like how now most guards attack the rim. That's more because of the no handcheck rule, but soon, mid range shooting guards will be all the rage. Now it's all threes and layups.

A lot of people in Blazersedge think Tyreke is the answer. Many say only a 10 per year will be the only way SAC lets him go. Tyreke w/ a change of scenery can go back to his 20/5/5 days and help us become a serious playoff team.

Would you guys use use all our cap space this year to sign Tyreke then move Wes to 6th man then draft a center?

    OR

Trade for a center then sign Tyreke? (Trade using Wes, 10th pick, Barton, maybe Leonard)

I wouldnt go for Tyreke either way.

1st our main need is a Center

2nd the trade for the Center will eat most of our cap space

3rd We should use the remaning cap to get good bench players, not just one possible starter, without much experience, leaving us with one of the worst benchs in the league again...

don't get evans, we can get jack and allen for the same price as evan will make. i still think that if we sign jack, allen, mills, ronnie brewer, and o'neal we would have one of the best bench in the nba. and we somehow trade for a real starting center that can rebound and block shot, we can be no.3 to no.6 in the west. here our bench production would look like

jack- 14 point, 5 assists, 2 rebound and 1.5 steal

    wesley-14 point, 2.5 assist, 2 rebound and 2 steal

    brewer-5 point, 2 assists, 1 rebound and 1 steal.

mills-3 points, 1 steal, and 2 assist. (haha, mills would give us our 3 point goggle back)

    o'neal-5 points, 2 assist, 5 rebound and  1.5 block

    leonard-8 point, 5 rebound, 2 assist and 1 block,

    total-49 point, 15.5 assist, 5.5 steal,  15 rebound, and 2.5 block.

our bench would come from a laughing stock bench to the best bench in nba history in one summer

this is what kind of player portland needs

Stotts didn't have a 10 man rotation that could compete, more like 6 this season. Stott actually has coached since Nate McMillan was a Sonic. He coached Nate McMillan, Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp as an assistant but he's got a lot of coaching experience. He's also been on a championship team's coaching staff. I don't buy that he's inexperienced. Stotts has also been on teams as an assistant that went deep into the playoffs including the Mavs championship.
