I agree cmeese, Victor is a good role player. He's not flashy but plays smart. I think he defended pretty well in limited minutes, good handles, good screens, and he's a rookie who can barely speak english. Next season I think all of the rookies from last season will show improvement and most of them will be 3rd string players who had to play second string due to injuries last season. Sasha Pavlovic was really good until his foot injury which set him back. When Sasha went down, our bench really floundered. Sasha and Victor were two of the better defensive bench players last season.

The only guy other than Claver who has a jumpshot that can make me feel funny in my special place, is Klay Thompson. Difference is, Thompson hits his shots. Claver needs to work on his jumper or soon, he will become...

Claver was decent as a defender off the bench but his offense was close to anaemic toward the end of the season. Shooting anything less than 30% from deep for a guy who takes so many shots from there is unacceptable. If we can get some rebounding and something like 35% shooting from deep then he will be a good role player.

And at 6'9 he needs to add some muscle so that he can be used to post up some of his smaller match ups. Lebron and Kobe really use their post game and Billups used to be very effective posting players up. If Claver adds some dimension to his offense then he will become very important.

I give a lot of credit to Stotts for weathering a 13 game losing streak but giving our raw rookies experience even though the teams beating us at the time were playing their starters against our rookies. All of our rookies were overthinking the game. Victor did the little things that don't show up on stats and I really liked his game. He got a lot of steals and finished at the rim. He deffered with the extra pass and wasn't looking for his shot but if you check out the film on his game in Spain he can shoot with range, dunk and finish at the rim. Look at Damian's scoring and many games he had 2 pts at the half and got doulbe digits in the second half. The rookies didn't get that kind of court time until we were out of the playoffs. I like Victors game a lot. It takes time. I hope we keep him.

I think he really improved his shooting as the season progressed. I remember even before he got ready to take a shot, JJ would be getting in position for the offensive rebound. This is off topic, but I know that coaches, when voting for All Stars, don't like to take multiple players from one team unless the are extra ordinary (See steph curry and david lee). If Damian is an All Star next year, will Lamarcus be one as well? I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this, but I want Lamarcus to get it more than Dame.

I think no matter the way Dame plays he will not be an All-Star, there are 4 point guards ahead of him in the west: Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Tony Parker, and Steph Curry, but I think LA will be one.

With Kobe out that leaves 5 guards spots to be filled assuming Harden and Paul are locks that leaves 3 spots Lillard just has to beat out 1 guy.

Tony is on the decline (Spurs been on the decline for years but still were number 2 in West lol)

    Maybe Russell comes back weak

Conley wont make a All Star game, He might be ahead of Lillard in terms of a player and is the most underated player in the league. But he wont make an all star game

Conley is a strange player. Think about it, is he really very good at any one thing? He can hit the three, but not great at it, he can hit mid range shots, can take it to the rack, is a good passer, and a good defender. Not great at anything, but very solid at a lot, and that is truly a good player. I don't want Dame to get All Star if it means LMA won't.

I think there is more honour in getting selected an All Star reserved than starter, because the fans vote for their favourite players. That's it. Just the guys they like watching the most. Blake Griffin, did not deserve to be an All Star this year. Steph Curry should have. I know one's a forward and one's a guard but still.

Lamarcus Aldridge is the best PF in the league right now, yes better than Timmy. When Kevin Love is healthy, he is the best. I know he and Lamarcus got beef, but he is the best. Rebounds like a boss, and while he doesn't have a great offensive game, mostly threes and putbacks/garbage buckets/shots around the rim, he uses it effectively.

How did Griffin play better? His numbers were down. I know he played less minutes, but his per 36 numbers were down in scoring and rebounding. He improved his assists and steals, but his game is still completely one dimensional. I have no idea why but people think Blake Griffin is great in the post. He has without a doubt some of the worst footwork I have ever seen. He is not great at all in the post.

Lamarcus improved his rebounding, and was solid all round. HIs 16-23% was down but he took more shots there.

He is also the second best active PF in the NBA (If you count Kevin Love). Blake is 4th or 5th.

Siccolo, am I glad you said. I HATE BLAKE GRIFFIN TOO. Best dunker I have ever seen and all, but I just plain don't like the guy. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but those bandwagon fans and that annoying "Oh me oh my" announcer make me dislike him. And he's plain just not a good players. He can rebound okay, but horrible offensively. Once his athleticism goes, everyone will finally see how bad he is.

I am no Griffin fan but per 36 Blake had more rebounds, assists, and steals.

    His points were similar.

Also his PER was higher and his team was better making him deserving.

I agree Griffin needs to cut down his 16 plus foot jumpers but so does LA Griffin was bad from beyond 10 feet shooting 41% from 10-16 and 34% from 16+.

LA was around 50% from 10-16 but at 40% from beyond 16 feet and more surprising he was under 50% from 3-10 feet.

I think that's the problem cmeese Griffin needed to do more because that's the reason why the Clips are fishing right now, of course your gonna look good when CP3 is your teammate he makes the game easier without CP3 their toast Griffin doesn't have that type of impact, while Griffin may have had better numbers LA has the bigger impact as you saw with the 13 game losing streak and don't forget cmeese the Clips had a bench and you have to add fatigue and a new system as a factor for LA having lower numbers I would not be suprised if LA gets back to his numbers that we are use to seeing next year.

If LMA does his work on the boards then he is a totally different player. For a guy who is 6'11 and can attack the offensive glass the way he does, he really doesn't grab enough rebounds. LMA is a better player than Griffin and he needs to show it next season if we gonna make the playoffs.

His shooting will improve next year and his defense will get better too. Now we need to put the right pieces around him. Griffin had the leagues best bench to help him and that made him look more effective. But when the Clippers played without Paul, Griffin became far less effective. Our starters became tired as the season wore on and that led to our slump right at the end. The Clippers had help from the bench and so they were able to compete right till the end.

That's my one issue with LA Cailin he needs to hit the boards more he would be a clear cut winner for the best PF in the game if he got more boards like RC mention he had that 30-20 game that tell me he's capable of getting more boards.

Exactly. He is undoubtedly capable of grabbing boards on both ends. It's not entirely up to him but if he sets the tone on that department then we will be a better team. Out in the western conference we need to be a good rebounding team in order to make the playoffs.

LA is the captain and our best player. He must set the tone on the boards and on the defensive end with his effort. His scoring speaks for itself and is never in question. Now he must answer the questions about his rebounding and defense.

LMA, Wes, and Nico are decent to good individual defenders. Our team defence is where the problem's at. Now that LMA spends more time floating around the key, his offensive rebounds are down, but his defensive board are up 1.4. Pretty good.

Matthews needs to become a much better rebounder because he is dreadful right now.

    Batum needs so more toughness.

Batum needs to add some more guile and savvy to his defense. Shane Battier and Tony Allen are not just good defenders, they are smart defenders. Tayshaun Prince was a good example of what Nic needs to become to really be considered a great defender. Nic has the length to bother his matchup and he is actually quite good playing passing lanes. His real issue is reading his man. At times he plays too far off his man and at others he gets too close and his man is able to square him up and blow by him.

He needs to make better decisions when he is one on one. Like I say, Battier, Prince and Allen are guys who Nic must emulate on the defensive end. Maybe more Prince and Battier. Allen is a tough guy who is more the style Wes plays.

Another guy who we keep mentioning is Ronnie Brewer. He played in the Tom Thibadeau system. He is a guy who understands defense and was often given the task of guarding James and Wade. Wade really struggled against him and if I remember right, so did Kobe on occasion.

If we get Brewer and another tough, gritty defender to matchup with opposition wings we could be a force. I've said over and over that our second unit gave up too many points. With Brewer and another defensive big man to anchor our defense we can be fighting for a 4-5 seed. Claver was pretty good (not great) and could be used to bother opposition scorers and even help on double teams in the post. At 6'9 he would make it tough for bigs to pass out of the post.

Theres a number of combinations we could use if we get Brewer and possibly Dorrell Wright.

Well said Cailin. I disagree with Battier though, Battier is a legendary over helper, he even actually gave up a game winning shot by over helping on D. I like that Tayshaun and Nico are both scrawny, great at chase downs. If we get a good interior defender or shot blocker, Nico can get real close to his guy, so even if his man beats him, we got someone inside to at least alter the shot.

I think the real point I'm making though is just that Nic needs to be smarter. He has the skill set and is ever improving so I can see him being great. Defense must be played. It's not something you just do. Nic can be better and will be. Guys like Prince and Battier have a defensive mindset. Nic must lock in on that end just like they did.

I would say if we could get two of the following we would have some good bench defense: Tony Allen, Ronnie Brewer, and Corey Brewer. Then sign Jermaine O'neil or Samuel Dalambert and draft Dieng or Gobert. Also resign Eric Maynor. I would rather get a more elite defensive center, but if that is not an option this wouldn't be a bad backup; something like this:

    Damian Lillard/ Eric Maynor

Tony Allen/ Wesley Matthews/ Will Barton (and Elliot Williams because I just like him)

Nicolas Batum/ Corey or Ronnie Brewer/ Victor Claver

    Lamarcus Aldridge/ Dieng or Gobert

Jermaine O'neil or Samuel Dalambert/ Meyers Leonard/ Dieng or Gobert

I would rather an elite center but this layout could be good

But i think it is a must to add a good Center, O´Neal would be good here, but as a backup...

And i still think we will trade our 10th pick...

Some other good news is that, are many teams interested in K. Papanikolaou, so it may be a good way to trade him along with Freeland for a bench player or something else...

that would be nice but out of all them tony allen is almost 90% gaurentee to not come here or leave the grizzlies for that matter after how there team has really played only way we could get him is if we over pay a grip for him and I can't see that happening with our cap situation

I completely agree adding a good center is more important but if that falls through, its always nice to have a plan B. And Blaser your right if we signed Dalambert we couldn't afford a lot of other pieces, but we would have enough to get both Brewers, Jermaine, and Maynor together. And I'm all for trading the pick if we for sure get that defensive center of our dreams, but if not I think we should keep the pick and draft another center.

yeah, brewer, o'neal and maynor should be enough for blazers to make it to the playoff. maybe trade our 1st round pick for Atalanta 17th and 18th pick, use those pick for dieng and franklin. 2nd round pick should be solomon hill, ryan kelly. this kind of off season would be the best in a long time for blazers

Dieng wont slide past 15 I bet

Dieng wont be as big as a project as Leonard because he already knows the basics of playing D and rebounding. I think Dieng and Leonard would be a fun duo since they are like opposites

Rather draft a defensive center then wait years trying to make Leonard into a defensive center...

Diengs passing, defense, rebounding will translate well. Add in Jermaine O Neil to help out then we will potentially have a dangerous Center rotation
