Olshey, in his interview yesterday, said that they want to make their offseason splash via trade on draft night instead of playing the waiting game in free agency. I like this idea by Olshey. By the way he said it, you know it will be a BIG acquisition I think, both in magnitude for the franchise, as well as the size of the player. His criteria for the type of player looked for is specific: Rebound Hungry, Shot blocker on a team in need of cap relief and a youth movement. The Blazers will look to use a package deal of their picks (10th pick and possibly 3 2nd round picks) as well as cap relief to the team (It is said that the cap this offseason could be largely consumed by said players contract) and maybe fillers. Thru all the criteria and speculations of what teams need cap relief I have one player in mind... DeAndre Jordan: and it makes perfect sense. Olshey and Jordan have had a previous relationship while on the Clippers, as Olshey helped resign Jordan to a nice contract. Jordan is a great rebounder and a great athlete when it comes to dunking and shot-blocking. He does not need the ball in his hands at all times to be productive on offense either, which helps. The Clippers are in desperate need of cap relief in order to resign Chris Paul, with Jordan making around 12mil, as well as a need for younger players, as many of their players are on the older end (ex. Crawford, Odom, Hill, etc.).. There are other players that could be targeted on teams who are in similar situations, but none match as well as this. Who is the big splash?

Deandre is a good shot blocker but that doesn't necessarily make him a good defender. I haven't really put him to the old eye test and I don't like numbers when it comes to defence. Is he really a good defender?

Well there's one way to find out RipCity watch the Clips-Grizz series and you might get your answer this is the perfect team to see if he is a good defender, I'm in the same boat I haven't really payed attention to his D the whole Lob City coverage they get it covers up from really discovering how good a player is like DeAndre because the spotlight is mainly on CP3, Blake and Crawford so I'll definitely keep an eye on him.

Deandre Jordon would be a awesome get!

I also agree that Olshey will find a defensive center since he said that is his main priority.  We have many assets

Two guys rumored to be on Olshey's radar are Noah and Varejao, both elite defenders and both really good fits in Portland. Noah played with Batum for the French team which is a plus. Varejao had a career start last season before injury but he's 30 already. I'd sign and trade JJ and add a pick for Noah in a heartbeat. The Bulls and Cavs are going to shake it up next season. I also really like Asik. I don't think Jordan is a great paint defender. Noah, Asik and Varejao are all great paint defenders. I like hearing that Olshey wants to get a handshake deal before draft night to draft with a sign and trade for another team netting us a veteran center. At this point draft night can't come soon enough.

I'd rather have Jordon over Varejao hands down. Asik or Noah would be the best pick ups I think. Hopefully we can still sign Maynor!

    Lillard/Maynor

    Wes/Barton

    Batum/Claver

    LA/Freeland

    Center/Leonard

Elliot Williams can still get a minimum contract just to see what he has. After we acquire a Center we can maybe use our two second rounders to move up and take a luxury cap teams first round pick. I think getting another banger would be nice for our second unit because Leonard can't rebound ... We can sign Blair or try to snag Stephan Adams, Dieng, or Whithey ....

Yeah I also heard about Varajaeo and Noah riverman. Im not a fan of Varajaeo just because he is aging and I only think he has a couple good years left. Noah would be the best of all by far, but its hard for me to picture the Bulls trading away the best player on their team this year, even though they do need a revamp. Unless they REALLY want Dwyane Wade in 2014 like they did in 2010, I just dont see Noah going anywhere, but if Olshey gets it done he's a genius

Oh and Asik could also be one of those guys. We did go after him last summer, and if Houston is serious about going for Dwight this offseason as well as Josh Smith to pair with Harden, they need more cap relief than they already have. I could see Asik too because his contract is smaller than Jordan's Noah's and Varajaeo's which leaves more cap room to sign a sixth man for us.

I like Asik be cause he is awesome. In my opinion in about a year or two he'll be the best rebounder in the game. Save Reggie Evans and K Love. Great one on one defender as well. Still not to sure about DJ, will watch the playoffs and decide. Noah is too expensive. Worth it, but we could get someone else who's isn't as expensive and still good. Varejao was amazing this year. He grabbed almost everything in sight. Like the second coming of Reggie Evans. But he is 30. I'm happy with any of them really, but I prefer Asik.

I can assure you guys that Omer Asik is NOT CHEAP! He is making something around 5.5 million this year, but in order for the Rockets to get him away from Chicago they had to give him a poison pill contract. That means during the 2014-2015 season, he will be making over 15 million a year! We need to go after DJ as abarrer 3 said. You explained it perfectly.

Asik may be a max guy salary wise but then again we paid Marcus Camby about 13.3 mil and he's really old. The only way to save any money is to sign and trade JJ for an expensive center. If we had gotten Hibbert for the max last summer, JJ would not have been on the team. Paul Allen will pay some luxury tax for the right guy. If you want cheap you go with Dalembert, O'Neil or Robin Lopez. JJ does not want to go to the Suns, Bucks or Pelicans but would probably agree to sign and trade to the Bulls, Rockets, Hawks, Nets or Knicks or Spurs. The Nets are his preference but then we'd have to settle for Kris Humphrey.

I think if we do go after a center via trade, we wouldnt actually trade any players.. Just absorb the contract. If Rockets wanted to sign Dwight Howard, then they would want to unload Asik without gaining any contracts in return. This goes for Bulls, and the Clippers.

Another topic going around on Blazeredge is Javale Mcgee. Myself and many others feel he would be a pretty good pick up. Denver would be looking to re-sign Corey Brewer and Andre Iguoudala so they would want to unload Mcgees contract without gaining any in return. They could easily sign Mozgov to a smaller deal than they gave Javale.

Unfortunately I think Joakim would be the least likely to get moved. If Bulls really wanted a star free agent then they would probably move Boozer and Deng. Dont see why they would trade Joakim unless they desperetly want Howard/Bynum

Well call me crazy..but anybody can be bought or traded for in this league and especially this season. Crazy was Lillard turning out to be a starting pg as a rookie, crazy was getting Eric Maynor for nothing. Crazy is a 7'1 20 year old rookie that runs like a deer, makes free throws and can shoot the 3..it's a crazy world and anything is possible. Crazy was the Clippers getting Chris Paul over the Lakers. Crazy was getting JJ off waivers and having his value escatlate to a real sign and trade value.

The real key is to get a player who will add more than just skill on the court. We need a leader and a good veteran presence in our locker room. I agree we should go after Jordan because he could be the rim protector we've wanted since Oden went down and didn't come back.

We could trade one of our 2nd round picks along with Freelend and Babbitt for Shannon Brown... The Suns need low maintenance contracts if they plan on going after Bynum and Brown is an athletic guard who has championship experience. He is a slasher and is really strong for a SG. He may be the bench scorer we're looking for. He was more than decent for a good spell this season when their offense struggled.

Why are you guys even considering trading for deandre? o.o youre telling me youd rather trade for deandre jordan, a guy who makes 10 million a year, rather than resign jj for maybe 4 million less? Trading for jordan would take out almost all of our 11-13 million dollar cap space, another 2 million to pay our 10th pick, and you got one million dollars to make a bench. Why not just trade our 3 2nd round picks for the highest first round pick we can get (maybe 22 from nets cause they dont have any cap spce left) and try to draft gorgui dieng, a pretty good defender and get a guy like samuel dalambert or timofey mosgov as a starting center, both options are alot cheaper than deandre

Riverman, David Stern, was the Clipper getting CP3 over the Lakers. And NO MOZGOV. And finally someone answered my question about whether DJ was a good one on one defender. Want Asik, but he's is my begrudging second choice. Don't like bad free throw shooters. I would love Tristan Thompson, but no way cavs give him up. Also, for some reason everyone thinks Lamarcus Aldridge is amazing on defence. He's good, but not that good.

Yeah that was kinda hypocritical sorry. The guy is a beast, gonna be an all star in 2 or 3 years, and I meant more like Ben Wallace, DJ, Rondo, and Dwight Howard. Thompson is definitely a beast. His game beneath the basket is good and could be great if he has the right coach teaching him. He is also a decent shot blocker and he can hit that 12-15 foot jump shot more often than he misses.

I still think that we could make a move to trade Hickson for him. Throwing in a 2nd round pick would more than likely be enough to lure Cleveland into the deal. They need a more solid and mature player in the locker room and JJ has unfinished business there...

Thompson is improving but he is not even close to someone I would consider to be a beast not yet at least. He is a solid rebounder and his offense is improving he would be worth a flyer because he is young and likely to improve. I would put his max potential on par with Paul Milsap.

I think JJs cap hold is 7.2 mil not 4..or maybe I'm mistaken and that's what he's projected to get but before the trade deadline, 7.2mil was the number  most writers were using when talking JJ

The Cavs have plenty of cap room and therefore could absorb JJs contract. He would give them the same production as what Thompson gives them but he could bring other intangibles to the team. Thompson would be tutored by LA and could eventually become the starting PF when LA moves over to Center later in his career like Duncan and KG. Thompson plays close to the basket and really goes after offensive boards.

If Varejoa were healthy I would say we should get him. He's a great energy player and he's an even better defender. Shot blocker, pick and roll and good one on one.

I don't know much about players salary, but no chance Cleveland gives away Tristan Thompson. He's already an excellent offensive rebounder, I think he'll be better than JJ (Sorry JJ), and he's so young. 2 years younger, but still. I can see them trading 30 year old injured Varejao for him if we throw in a second round pick. They can put Zeller at the starting 5. If they ask for a 1st round pick, I would say too expensive. And we shouldn't draft McCollum or Shahbazz or whoever and then trade them, we should trade the pick now, or handshake agreement. More value that way.

Ripcity we have to draft someone we owe a pick to Charlotte and since we cannot not have a first round pick 2 years in a row we have to make a selection this year. Whether we keep or trade the pick is something else.

With Mike Brown back coaching Cleveland, who knows which of his old team he'd like back. Im counting on Olshey's relationship with a multitude of players that wouldnt mind playing in Portland to build us a contender. DeAndre' Jordan, Tony Allen, guys like that to name a few. Im not saying these guys would leave their teams, but they know what Olshey is capable of building.
