LA should bring in significant offers but they key is we need young talent and high picks for him. Trading LA should be done in order to open up cap space to make moves in FA.

Three players on our team should be moved first if we are rebuilding. LA who will bring in a small fortune. Batum who while expensive would be a great piece for a struggling franchise. Matthews who would be a great bench piece for a contender no concerned about money.

Here are some considerations of moves Portland should consider:
    1. Trade Nicolas Batum to Sacramento for Tyreke Evans, Jimmer Fredette, and a conditional pick.
Evans has the ability to play PG, SF or SG giving the team lots of flexibility. Fredette is needed to match salaries. The pick would likely be a 2nd rounder or maybe a conditional first round depending on Batum's play and how bad Sacramento really wants to get something out of Evans.

    2. Trade Lamarcus Aldridge to Charlotte for Michael Kidd Gilchrist, DeSagana Diop, and multiple first round picks.
Charlotte has lots of picks and they need a franchise player, I love Kidd Gilchrist but he is not that guy. However, he would be a perfect fit alongside Lillard and Evans because he is active will cut to the basket and does not need the ball. Diop is to match salaries. Adding multiple first round picks is important in retooling the roster.

Trade Wesley Matthews and picks for Derrick Favors. Alec Burks and Raja Bell are the holding down the fort at SG for the team and adding Matthews to their team would give them a big lift off of the bench. Favors is valued by the franchise so he won't come cheap if at all but he would be the ultimate player to replace LA.

I agree with tradim l.a. and mathews but not batum hes young and has room to grow with more minutes and a faster pace his stats will probably compliment his contract hell probably get good looks in transition this year and look better than last season

Fredette can shoot but cant handle the rock. Tyreke, no thanks. Im only interested in sf's that can handle the ball, create their own shot and are lock down defenders. Id rather have a 3 that plays "d" and learns to shoot, than a 3 that can shoot but cant play d. Personally, i like what we have at the 2 guard spot.L.A. and JJ are a great tandem at the 4. We, like 90% of the league need 2 beast in the middle. I would stand pat to at least gage what we're working with.

Yeah im starting to like us staying pat with how we are right now. Just would like to find some depth at SF.

Next offseason we will only have 1 free agent in JJ. We can lock him up and have him as our sixth man. Or let him go move Freeland to our back up PF then find a Center.

Lets see how these guys do this season.

i highly disagree with you there, trob could be the best player from this draft at some point, i think he could end up better than LA especially on D and rebounding, he could become a 24 and 12 guy in his prime, LA will never average 12

Yeah but Lamarcus is already a 22 and 8  guy. Why trade him for a guy you don't know what your going to get from him at all. He didn't even play good at the Summer League. Power Forwards take 3-5 years to become truly productive.  Only big I would trade LA for is Cousins. Because he is already putting up big numbers.

I dont believe in players who havent shown anything yet.

I think the idea of trading Batum, Mathews and Aldridge is ridiculous! Tyreke Evans and Jimmer Fredette? The current roster is fine and we should at least allow these guys we have some measure of respect. The draft was great this year. Free agency was OK even though we lost out on Hibbert. LaMarcus is our franchise allstar and team captain. Why sink the ship? It hasn't even left the harbor yet! I think people underestimate some of our new pieces. People forget sometimes that we have a pt guard that can shoot! We have a lot of scorers now and some good defenders. Stotts needs to buckle down and design a system to fit this roster and get them on the same page. The revolving door approach is not a formula for success.

Keep everybody. If were gonna make a trade is has to be for some quality bench players.  We gotta sign Mikel Pietrus. Then trade for Eric Maynor or Luke Ridnour.  With this core and some quality role player additions we can fight for a home court in the west in 2-3 years.

If they suck trade them if not keep them it is pretty simple. Last year Luke and Nolan sucked if that happens again they must be traded simple as that. Elliot has been hurt and if that happens again trade him if he has any value left.

you can choose star, youth, role, or bench player. We have one star- LA, 2 youth in leonard and lillard, 2 - role- matthews batum, and a bench- jj. Every great team of all time has had at least 2 star players, and between 2 and 3 roll players, and one or 2 bench. The point I am trying to make is we need one more star on our team. Role players are easier to find and I think we should invest in another star right now, or someone who if put in the right situation would be a star now.

pretty sure lillards gunna be a star so im not to worried about the extra star and leonard will be good center given his shooting touch and his physicality not to mention he has great hands cant teach great hands LMA's hands are probably his biggest weakness.......we just need time i think and ewill has shows sparks when he's not injured so he could be another bench player

Lillard is gonna be a great player. He has no one to comepete with for minutes. He is mature and he has the keys. I truly believe he is gonna average 15-16 points per game his rookie season. Then many are thinking Batum will put up 16-17 points this year with the new coaching staff. If you have 3 players that are averaging 15 points+ then you dont need another star.

    Lillard, Matthews, Batum, LA, Freeland

This is a playoff starting lineup in my opinion. Now all we need is some depth. We need Claver, Elliot and Nolan to step up this season. Whenthe starters go out we are going to get murdered by the opposing teams second unit. I dont want our starters playing 40+ minutes then have there knees ruined like "you know who"  (i kno he had bad knees to start with)

No one ever said we would not be able to score with this team. The problem is can we do it in an efficient manner, can we prevent other teams from doing it, can we maximize our possessions by limiting turnovers, and can we get more shot opportunities than our opponents through causing turnovers or rebounding.

I honestly believe this team will need to make some moves because we do not have a good defense simple as that. We will not be a great rebounding team. With a rookie point guard and newer up tempo offense we will turn the ball over a lot. It is those issues that will prevent us from making the playoffs and from winning in the playoffs when we make it next season.

Address them or we will be just another mediocre playoff team and that is getting really old.

I dont think we are going to be that bad of a rebounding team. Leonard, Freeland, Lamarcus, and JJ.

Ronnie Price is a defensive specialist. Jared Jeffries is also defensive minded. Freeland and Meyers are very aggressive that wont get pushed around. And everyone knows that Matthews and Batum are good defenders.

This team is brand new from last season.

Leonard has yet to show me he will be a good defender, in college he was solid but he did two things really poorly that would kill him in the NBA. The first was he played to far off his man allowing uncontested jumpers that cannot happen here. The second was despite good strength Leonard often gave up good post position in college he was good enough to keep his man from dominating despite the good position in the NBA that wont happen if he continues.

Price might be a defensive specialist but he won't see many minutes, Lillard will play anywhere between 35-38 a night and Nolan looks to get a few minutes as well. With three SG's all vying for playing time his minutes will have to come at PG.

Not a lot of minutes for Jeffries either imo. So that leaves us struggling to be a good defensive team.

Well Terry said he wants Leonard to be a defensive minded Center first. So im pretty sure they are going to develop him to be a better defender.

Im not sure Lillard is going to to get those kind of minutes. I dont know if those are the kinda of number of minutes Lillard is going to get. More like the 32 to 35 minute range in my opinion.

I hope Jeffries gets some minutes. Heard he can play 3. Hopefully..

Leonard should become a defensive minded center but that will take time he is not as skilled as someone like Anthony Davis who will be an elite defender right away. Or even Drummond who has better defensive fundamentals. I like Leonard, which is why he has not been on any of my trade lists.

Here is another trade idea Wesley Matthews and a pick for Paul George. George is similar player to Matthews but he has more upside. This move would allow us to move Batum to SG and George to his preferred SF spot or to trade Batum.

I would prefer the later because I believe with a good season he could really improve his trade value. Then we could use him to secure someone like Shabazz Muhammad in the draft.

I like that trade because Paul George is young and has a huge upside. Also I like because it can happen because Indiana needs a SG.

Trading Wesley Matthews would be a bad move.
Why would you want to trade your best defender, hardest working, most committed, player?
Yeah so he struggled last year some, who didn't other than JJ? Wes gets it, he is out to change last year, just look at what he's doing in the off season, who does that? A leader. He will be the leader of this team this year as well as a model and mentor to Lillard. In my opinion Portland should be working on getting him signed to an extension not even thinking of trading him.

I love Wes too benh7777. Any real competitor does. We love anyone who gets after it. Wesley has that trait. I think only Harden or Wilson Chandler would be worth trading him for. People dont seem to realize that every team is but a star injury away from being the 8th seed or no seed at all.

I really like the idea of trading players for high draft picks if the team is not meshing by the 1/2 way point of the season. I want to keep our draft picks from this year and E-Will but I am not against trading Batum, Matthews or Aldridge if the return is huge. (like Aldridge to Charlotte for Kidd-Gilchrist and 2013 1st rounder and 2015 1st rounder) or (Matthews and Babbitt to Houston for T-Jones or D-Motiejunas and a 2013 1st rounder) or (Batum to Toronto for T-Ross, J-Valanciunas, 2013 1st rounder and 2015 1st rounder) or (Batum to Golden State for H-Barnes and 2013 1st rounder and ?) or (Lamarcus to New Orleans for A-Davis, E-Gordon and 2013 1st rounder) or (Matthews and Babbitt to Detroit for B-Knight, K-English and 2013 1st rounder) These are the type of big returns I think we should look for in future trades.

He's already said he'd love to play in Phoenix. My hopes are that Wesley also reads our fan page and see's what we would love to see from him. A Harden effort on offense, while still staying committed to his beast like defense. I like Wes, and if he learns to create more on offense,i wont even consider Harden anymore. He just needs to be more LaMarcuslike and add something to his game each year. Go Blazers !!!

You're right about that meese. Nick Collison is another valuable asset to them as well. Were i Olshey id make a hard push to put a Lillard/Harden backcourt together mid season. Those two, with a Batum ,Hickson,Aldridge frontcourt is pretty formidable.
