Rookie Ladder: Waiters Breaks Out | Drew Packham

    November 6th, 2012
Lillard was rolling through three games (averaging 21.3 points and 9.0 boards, putting him in some rare company) before coming down to earth a bit in Monday's loss in Dallas. Lillard struggled from the floor, going 2-for-13 (1-for-8 on 3s). Still, Lillard is so calm and cool running the Blazers' offense and he's quickly gaining fans throughout the league and made Portland a League Pass favorite for me and so many others. Lillard leads rookies in scoring (19.3) and assists (8.0), easily giving him the top spot.

lillard is the steal of the draft, he's going to dominate this class his whole career and his R.O.Y. award can be at the back of the trophy case behind a championship ring next year when we have a supporting cast.

Rookie Ladder: Trio Joins The Ranks | Drew Packham

    November 14th, 2012
Lillard keeps the top spot and continues to impress, leading all rookies in both scoring and assists. Tuesday night in Sacramento, Lillard once again showed why GM Neil Olshey was so high on Lillard entering the draft. Lillard had 22 points and nine assists while going 5-for-6 from 3-point land in helping Portland end a four-game skid. When asked afterward about the ROY race (not sure why, since we're two weeks into the season), Lillard responded as you'd expect. "Really I'm not trying to fight for it. I'm really more concerned with us winning games. I think (that) as long as we are winning games, then that means I've played well and it will give me a chance to be in that fight."

Lillard with a career high vs Minn.  28 pts (11-17 and 4-8 from three) with 8 ast, 4 reb, and a block.  And after a terrible 6 turnover performance in Phx, he ended the game against Minn with ZERO.

Well... when Rubio's healthy, Shved is a reserve. But Dame tore the Wolves up on Friday. I have been amazed at Lillard's consistency for being a rookie. But now that I look at it, it's only scoring consistency. He's good for nearly 20 pts every game, but his assist and turnover numbers have been all over the place. 3 asts, 6 turnovers followed up by 8 asts, 0 turnovers.... if he could just level out toward the better end by the close of the season, I will be a happy Blazer fan.

Lol...how do you REALLY feel about Dame ^ CC?

Dame is hitting that proverbial rookie wall right about now and is looking a bit more average...closer to mortal. Not concerned in the slightest, primarily because of the fiber of Lillard's character. Additionally, I don't feel his recent struggles have to do with anything more than exhaustion, and his adapting to the rigorous NBA schedule and how grossly it differs from that of a college basketball schedule. Throw in 40+ minutes a game and the longest road trip this team has seen in years, and you have a recipe for a "rookie wall". Kid is tired and you can see it. To me, he almost looks a half step slower and isn't exploding the way he did earlier in the year or with nearly the same frequency.

Stotts...Price can defend, give him more run and Dame more splinter time.

Rookie Ladder: Swedish Sensation | Drew Packham

    November 28th, 2012
How many ways can I write that Lillard continues to impress? In Friday's win over the Wolves, the PG had a career-high 28 points on 11-for-17 shooting (4- for-8 on 3s) with zero turnovers and, along with Wesley Matthews, willed the Blazers to the eight-point win. Lillard came back to earth in the Blazers' next two games (losses in Brooklyn and Detroit), shooting 8-for-30 from the floor for a combined 25 points. Still, no other rookie's even close to knocking Lillard out of the top spot, especially with Davis out two weeks with his ankle injury.

He followed up a terrible game last night with 24, 11, and 6. Hopefully he knows what it feels like to have tired legs, and he'll be able to produce consistently for the rest of the season.

Waiters is the real deal. I was skeptical after the promise and shutting down his workouts, but I think Cleveland had a good pick up (although they might be wishing they'd taken Lillard about right now).

I get the feeling November won't be the only month he'll win that award. He'll probably split it 4 and 2 with AD, assuming he heals up soon. Or 3 Lillard, 2 AD, 1 Barnes.

I bet Beal, MKG, and maybe Waiters will be competing for the East ROM. Kidd-Gilchrist won it for November already.

Kid got some rest. Looking forward to seeing whether that rest was all that Lillard needed to successfully scale that rookie wall many thought he'd been facing of late. Truly a special talent and barring injury, a lock for ROY. Lillard commanded the floor and dictated tempo beautifully, statistics aside, in leading his team past a quality opponent. Factor in the impressive line he put up statistically ^ ?

Most points from a rookie so far. He'll go for 30+ this season. He has all the tools for it. We officially have 4 guys in our starting lineup that could put up 30 in a given night. What other team can say that?!

Also, the crew on TNT kept talking about Lillard being at the top of Popovich's defensive game-plan. That tells you everything you need to know about the quality of player he is.

I'm kind of glad we picked #6 instead of #1, 2, or 3. I don't think we would've gotten lillard and he's had the biggest immediate impact hands down. It makes you wonder about the "consensus #1 pick." Who are these experts that consistently get it wrong about who the best rookie will be?

Not surprised at all. He played so well through out the month. He had great numbers and stat sheet for the record books. I like the Kyrie Irving and Derrick Rose comparisons even though Damian is levels higher than Irving. The two are so different its a little hard to compare. I have enjoyed watching Damian's work ethic pay off. As the scouting report gets bigger so does his game. He is just growing so fast as a player and team leader on the floor. The midrange quick jumper and runner/floater need more time but will come. Those two weapons will make his performances more consistent in the long run.
I am a fan of Damian Lillard going off for his friends and family in Oakland. Proves he can go off whenever he so chooses.

I think the best player to come out the 2012 draft will be Damian Lillard

but other players that will be very good and maybe stars are

    Andre Drummond

    Anthony Davis

    Terrance Ross

    Micheal Kidd Gilchrist

This was a very strong draft a lot of other players that will be in the league for a long time as Great Role Players

Shved, Waiters, Zeller.....the lists can grow the more we see these rookies too !

Davis is on his tail, and provided neither of them misses any more time due to injury, they should finish 1 and 2 with Dame winning it.  Interesting that NO was high on Lillard before his work outs and while he was still projected as a late lotto or even second rounder.  NO had planned on taking Lillard with their 10th selection, building their franchise with the Davis/Lillard cornerstones.  Then came the work outs and the rapid rise of Dame's draft stock.  Imagine teammates competing for ROY.

    I heard about that BDawg

Funny how Sacremento and New Orleans talking about Lillard, usually we are the ones talking about who we SHOULD have selected.

Andre Drummond has a chance to win this too, I POSITIVE Damian has it but Andre could be number 2 over Davis.

Past 5 Games Davis is averaging 12 points 10 Reb 2 Blocks in 34 minutes-19.41 PER

Past 5 Games Andre is averaging 9 points 10 Rebounds 2 blocks in 24 minutes -21.68 PER

I never believed in Drummond I called everyone stupid to even think of drafting him over Lillard. Even though Damian is much better and is A BEAST. Drummond is going to be very good in this league. NOT as good as Lillard tho ;)

Drummond is absolutely close in the shot-blocking department. And If he had as many lob plays drawn up for him, his scoring would go up. I just don't think he'll ever be at Davis's level as a starter, as a defensive anchor, as a potential superstar... So yeah.

Rookie Ladder: Beal's Big Moment | Drew Packham

    January 9th, 2013
No one's close to knocking Lillard from the top rung here, and NBA.com's stats expert, John Schuhmann, shows just how important he is to the Blazers. According to the +/- numbers, "the offensive drop-off that the Trail Blazers have suffered when Lillard has stepped off the floor has been greater than the drop-off that any other team has suffered when a specific player goes to the bench." This rookie's the real deal.
