Imagine a Blazer line-up that looked like this:

    PG-Billups/Lillard/Smith
    SG-Matthews/E-will/Barton
    SF-Batum/Babbit
    PF-LMA/Shawne Williams
    C-Hibbert/Leonard/Przybilla

The starting 5 gives me chills.  I think Billups would be our starter for the first bit of the season while Lillard learned the ropes (less pressure), but Lillard wiould probably take over by mid-season.

We would still need some help at the SF and PF slots (would love if we can keep Hickson, but doubtful), but this would be the foundation of a dynamite roster.  Olshey for President.

I wish we wouldve gone after a SF in the draft instead of Meyers. I don't see why we drafted him and now went ater hibbert. Maybe it was a saftey net in case hibbert stays w the pacers. But if we had a SF to replace batum and still sign hibbert then we could prolly still gp after another decentish FA.

    first  off i think
you dont need a veteran  pg to be  a starter to mentor a  young  future all star guy  the veteran pg can mentor him as a bencher also ...   if this bla bla veteran guy  will be a starter i feel  so bad for  the young Talented Damian Lillard..

is sad for Lillard they take a billups and put  the pick 6 from a deep draft to the bench a guy who could  be an SuperStar  but hey who knows  maybe  this is only for  couple years  till Lillard  is going to be  30+
    Lillard  is   21 now    smh

From Indy Star beat writer, Mike Wells-
Kaman is clearly the Pacers' favorite to replace Hibbert if they don't match Portland. Indy tried to get Kaman at the deadline last season.

Darren Wolfson, a Radio Host for ESPN Twin Cities has an update on Batum (h/t to Casey for the transcription)-
According to a source with intimate knowledge of those discussions, Batum is the Wolves' Plan A in free agency -- and he told the Wolves he has legitimate interest in coming.

Financially, the Wolves know where Batum stands, so a verbal agreement in advance of July 11 -- the first day free agent contracts can be signed -- could come very soon. But as of Monday night, with Batum no longer in the Twin Cities, a verbal agreement had not been reached.

A team source said Batum's agent is very much in control of the situation, more so than for most free agents.

Comcast Portland is reporting Batum will meet with the Blazers on Thursday or Friday. The Wolves think there's a decent chance he'll express his desire to play in Minnesota.

The team source said there's a far better chance that Batum would come via a sign-and-trade, because outright landing a restricted free agent is too tough. He is not planning on taking any other visits.

If it does indeed come down to a sign and trade, is there a player on their roster that excites you? I'm not even sure a first-round pick would be worth it since they would be a pretty talented team if that happened.

I honestly have no clue. They could legitimately be looking for Hibbert's replacement or they could be keeping him around as insurance in case they decide not to match.

I like the idea of Billups, he is much better than Nolan Smith so that is something now just need to find a sf to replace Babbitt and a pf to replace Hickson potentially leaving.

IAMAGM via LA Times - Clippers make offers to both Chauncey Billups and Jamal Crawford-
The Clippers plan to offer Crawford the mid-level exception that starts at $5 million. The Clippers are willing to offer Crawford, a 6-foot-5 guard, at least a three-year deal, sources said. The Clippers also are planning to offer a contract to Chauncey Billups, sources said. Billups, who is recovering from a torn left Achilles’ tendon injury, will get a one-year offer from the Clippers for about $4 million, sources said.

    Plan A (Ideal world):
    1. Sign Hibbert and Billups
    2. Keep Batum & JJ
    3.  Add a cheap back-up PF/SF (ex: Sam Young/Troy Murphy)

    Plan B:
    1. Sign Hibbert
    2. Sign-and-trade Batum for Budinger/Ridnour
    3. Add a cheap back-up PF/SF

    Plan C:
    1. Lose Hibbert, Billups, and Batum to unmatchable offers
    2. Sign Hasheem Thabeet, T.J. Ford, and Chris Johnson to 1-year contracts
    3. Cry deeply
    4. Wait for 2013 and try again

I like Hibbert but if we get him it is only because we over paid it also concerns me who we might get to play at SF. If we sign Hibbert and end up having Luke Babbitt or Shawne Williams start then we went backwards.

Hawes figures to be Blazers' Plan B if Indiana matches Hibbert deal. Philly likes Hawes, but is also trying to re-sign Lou Williams
Sounding like Blazers interest in FA center Spencer Hawes more perfunctory than serious.
Spencer Hawes will also not be an option at center for Blazers unless market dries up.

Probably "Trust me I didn't tell the Blazers that I don't want to return." The poor dude barely speaks English; give him a break.

I'm sure that CSNNW report is just a rumor. But honestly, if I were Nic, I'd want to leave. His role and treatment within the Portland system over the past 3 years have been shaky at best.

Can we just swap free agents and pick up Michael Beasley for similar money? I don't know a lot about him off the court. Is there any reason we wouldn't want someone like beasley?

If you dig deeper into the Batum story you realize it was Dwight James who reported it. Same guy that said Allen had a buyer for the Blazers and was going to sell them. It broke the same way, "a source close to the situation.." When yesterday Batum said it's either Portland or Minnesota and puts all his other team meetings on hold I don't tend to believe that he said today he never wants to play here again.

Wouldn't mind Beasley. Maybe for once Portland would be on the right side of a situation where somebody has been waited on to unleash their potential but doesn't until they switch teams a few times.

Yeah, I don't like the way Dwight Jaynes gets his stories either. The way he kept at it with the team for sale got on my nerves. Of course Allen would deny anything about the team being for sale. I don't think there was a for sale sign in the window, probably more like if the right offer comes or came along maybe there would be a discussion.

The way Jaynes goes about it reminds me of a political journalist and I hate that. Always trying to stir something up. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Batum wants to go somewhere else, but it wouldn't surprise me either if the "never wants to play here again" thing came straight from Jaynes own mind.

That goes for all those Talkin' Ball guys. That's gotta be the worst show ever. I love seeing Holton or Grant getting on there and owning them. If the Blazers win, they should just shoot 60 percent every time. If they lose, they have no chance to win the next game. That's the philosophy over there. Anyway, to keep the page on track, looks like New York is interested in Shawne Williams once Portland finishes up his buyout.

A first round pick for Batum may be best for both sides.  Beasley may be another option.  Or Ridnour plus a pick might be another option.  Or just match the offer and keep Batum.
