schapter- C's are worth more than any other position because there are a lot less of them in the league. mcgee is worth 11-13 mil range- has a great ceiling just needs to mature

One of the big hold ups is that Kahn doesn't want to let D. Williams go.  I agree, I think this offseason he polished up some of his rough edges, reports say he's in much better physical shape--he'll be a weapon.

BUT he's still a project, and Batum isn't.  Batum has room to improve, but he's a solid starting 3 *today*.

There are a lot of possible sign-and-trade scenarios being thrown around on the boards, but in my opinion, most of them are pipe-dreams and not realistic solutions.  Here are two realistic trades that MIGHT happen in the next 24 hours if Kahn decides to drop the bravado and deal with us:

    1. Derrick Williams and (1) first round draft pick
This gives us a replacement for Batum who's ceiling is comparable, is a little younger, and a pick as an asset to further rebuild the team.
    2. Chase Budinger, Luke Ridnour, and (1) second round draft pick
This downgrades us at SF but gives us a guy who can fill the void and be a trade piece later on, solves our need for a vet PG, and gives us a pick that will be a pot-sweetener in a trade deal sometime this season (probably).
    3. Budinger, Pekovic, and (1) first round, (1) second round draft pick
Void-filling SF, we become STOCKED on bigs for a while and Pekovic can start for us at the 5, and then we have a 1st rounder to look for new talent at SF in upcoming years, and a 2nd rounder for trade deals.

Rudy Gay and Iguodala would be damn near impossible to get without paying an unnecessarily steep price, so chances Minn gets either in a 3-way are highly unlikely.  They were trying to get us to take Korver and 2 picks for Nic.  Korver is a serious shooter, but that's all he's got.  Take Batum and take away his on-ball defense, athleticism, steals, and blocks, and then add 4% to his 3pt% and you get Korver.  If that's their best offer, plus a couple of protected picks, don't expect them to cough up enough to get a guy like Iggy or Gay to PDX (sadly).

Felton about to be signed-and-traded to NY.  This means two things:

    1) We are going to get *something* from the Knicks, which is good news.
    2) Raymond Felton, for a moment (between contract signed and trade confirmed), will be a Blazer again.  Yikes.

Excited to see who we get back.  Also, heard rumor today that Minn HAS in fact made Derrick Williams available in trade talks, but no word on whether or not any picks were coming with him.  Love what you're doing so far Olshey, but now it's time to GET A DEAL DONE!

    Dream scenario:

    1. Blazers get Toney Douglas back from NY in sign-and-trade
    2. Blazers package Batum and Douglas for Derrick Williams, Ridnour, and an *unprotected* 1st round pick in the next 2 years.

Douglas is house money, but could be an acceptable replacement for Minn for Ridnour.  Then they get Batum for Williams and a pick, which I think they'd be willing to pay.  We finish up our roster minus one more veteran big, and we're ready to embarrass the Wolves next time they come to town :)

thank you andy for that info.
They have offered as many as three future first-round draft picks and even have dangled small forward Derrick Williams, the No. 2 pick in the 2011 draft. - Ric Bucher
i don't know but i feel like olshey should better get a deal done before they send batums offer sheet to the league because it seems like they are willing to give up a lot to get batum. it might make sense to pay him that much if they feel he is the missing piece but we are in rebuilding mode right now so we should not pay him that much.
also a lot of people have been talking about how they would like the first rounds pick because they think they are going to be lottery picks but they had already made the play offs last year if rubio had stayed healthy so if they can add batum and rubio comes back i am pretty sure they are going to make the playoffs

    From Frank Isola-
The Knicks have acquired Raymond Felton and Kurt Thomas from Portland for Jared Jeffries and Dan Gadzuric, sources tell the Daily News
According to HoopsHype, Dan Gadzuric has a team option for this season for 1.3 million.

I am going to apologize if this post offends anyone but what the *no swearing, at all* (mod edit)are we doing.

Ric Bucher reported that Minnesota has offered as much as 3 future first round picks for Batum or 2 picks and D. Williams. If we are in asset accumulation mode like Olshey suggested then we need to trade Batum this second and stop dicking around. 3 first round picks for a player than has never been an all-star, never been all-defense, never been all-nba. Put a lottery restriction on the picks and finish the deal. I do not care if you accept three picks or two pick and Derrick Williams do the deal now.

That's what Bucher reported.  I doubt Minn. has seriously offered D. Williams.  I think the phrase he used was "dangled" not offered.

Jeffries is apparently a free agent (hoopshype)
So it must be a sign and trade and now it is being reported by Marc Spears that we are signing Felton to 3yr/10 million deal (assumption is that he'll be sign and traded to New York.)
Blazers will sign guard Raymond Felton to a three-year, $10 million deal and then trade him to Knicks in sign and trade, source tells Y!

But really who knows what the protection's on those picks were. It could have been Miami's 2013 pick, OKC' 2014 pick, and their own lottery protected pick through 2025. So, let's not freak out until we know exactly what was and wasn't offered.

im going to think this through. Rick adalman is one of the smartest coaches in the game. If he wants to trade batum for WIlliams, that means he thinks Batum will always be better than Williams.

Minisota will not be in the lottery any more. So lets say for sake of arguement we get 2 or 3 pick 20's. Something does not add up if Adalman wants to give this all up for batum.

btw I hate felton trade. Makes no sense to me

Hollinger believes we will waive Gadzuric-
Blazers will almost certainly waive Gadzuric, keep Jeffries, pay slightly more $ for a 2016 2nd-rounder. Alrighty then.

Finally got Ray Feltons worthless butt off my squad. Kurt Thomas also went to the Knicks, in exchange for Jarred Jeffries and Dan Gadzuric. Two 6'11 servicable scrubs. Realistically we'll probably only keep one. Jeffries i would imagine. Thats 18 fouls we can use on any Big man that we play against. Thanks Kurt for your professional service Bruh.

As long as Jeffries is not signed for more than one year I am okay getting something for Felton not sure we couldn't have gotten a future second for Thomas on our own but I will take what we got and move on.

Just need to make the Batum deal now

But really, someone needs to make the sense out of this trade for me. Knicks needed to do a sign-and-trade because they have no cap room, but they're sending us 2 players whose contracts just expired? Jeffries' will get here via sign-and-trade of his own contract, and Gadzuric has a team option of $1.3 M that won't be picked up. To make matters worse they also take Kurt Thomas, who will also cost them $1.3 M. Does this trade make sense to anyone at all?! They must discussing about sending us a draft pick, otherwise this deal defies all senses.... I'm so confused...

It's not like Portland won from this trade either. I was thinking Kurt Thomas would be a perfect mentor for Meyers Leonard, but this deal happened. Portland is a huge loser in this deal. Houston got Toney Douglas, Josh Harrelson AND 2nd round picks to sign and trade Camby to Knicks. Toney Douglas!!! And picks!!! They didn't even have contracts with Camby and turned him into some good young players! It's not like Camby just had a good season either. He was a contributor to our horrible season as well.

See what Felton brings back to us? Older guys. There is no way in all burning hells of all religions that Felton is that worthless. He just had one down-season and boy is this an insult to him. I was certain we would at least get a first round pick and Iman. I'm hoping to see something better tomorrow. I'm hearing the trade isn't complete. Portland better be asking for more assets right now.

I am also extremely disappointed in this trade. While Felton was horrible last year I agree that it was only a down year for him, and 10mil for 3 years is a steal. I have a feeling that he only signed for that little to go back to NY, and we did this to dump Thomas's salary. I also read that we are throwing in cash and getting a 2nd round pick.

Don't expect to ever see either in a Blazers jersey. Gadzuric will be bought out immediately and Jeffries will be dealt for someone probably not exciting, but younger. Olshey made it clear he wants the people he gets to be around the same age, making it obvious that Kurt Thomas wasn't going to be around much longer. Also, he has his young PGs in Lilliard and Smith, and Felton didn't have a good year last year. No reason to keep him, so the trade makes sense to me.

For Felton we should get somebody around Rodrigo Beaubois' or Kirk Hinrich' talent. Or 1st rounder ,predicted beetween 20th-30th place.

Thomas would be hard to replace due to his mental skills combined with very good pick up pop.

Gadzuric should be waived,he won't bring anything - Jeffries might be useful as a utility player but should balance between 11th - 13th spot on our roster

jared jeffries is either- a solid vet at the rotational player at the 3/4 brought in to mentor the young guys, a trade chip to get a much needed veteran big or backup pg, or the replacement for batum. i really hope this peculiar move by olshey isn't the answer to losing batum!

if the twolves have offered derrick williams for batum straight up i say we take it! batum doesnt really want to be here and olshey has said from day one that he wants to build around guys that want to be here. im sure david kahn is hard to deal with as he never seems to have much of a plan, but we need to get this figured out. today is the day. match or trade? if the reported offerings are for real i say we trade batum.

As most of you long-timers know, I am not exactly known to be a Nic supporter...however, some quick thoughts.

I DO believe Nic will be a very good player once in an offense that features him, both as a scorer and as an occassional facilitator.  Without a head coach in place, and as fluid as our infrastructure currently is, it's puzzling to me that ANY player could publicly state they are unhappy here...least of all a young man who is likely going to start AND be a feature in the offense (as previously stated) as well as a cornerstone in a rabid fan base...a fan base who clearly has fallen in love with him no less.  Unhappy with the Nate era, and his lack of a role and freedom to do what he is capable?  Sure.  Unhappy with what looks to be everything he's ever wanted from being in Portland?  Very confused.

Nic has a bloated value for the same reasons a guy like Kaman makes an all-star team.  In todays NBA landscape, there is a noteable shortage of quality 3s...and of those, Nic may be the youngest and possess the most upside and highest celing.  Not unlike the shortage at the 5, where Kaman too, has a bloated value.  For my money, there are only a couple of centers in todays NBA that could and would have posted respectable numbers in the NBA of the 80's.  Dying breed.

I am a fan of players that play with PASSION and PRIDE

Hopefully, we can get some clarity on whether or not Papanikolaou was a part of this package. His potential involvement will either make or break this trade for me, as I have NO interest in Gadzuric(waive) or Jeffries(3.1 mil what?). The 2016 second rounder is mildly alluring (sucker for picks), but if Papanikolaou isn't involved I would have rather just let Raymond walk and kept Thomas as a veteran presence for the time being. Papanikolaou has had me super intrigued since all the talk of him getting the best of Kirilenko in the euro playoffs a couple months back. I really wanted us to draft and stash with our 41st pick, and this guy was at the top of the list.

At this point, Jared Jeffries has more value to us than Raymond "foot dribbling" Felton. Kurt was traded probably to accomodate him and let him end his career with the team he played in the finals with back in the day. Thomas and Camby were both on that Knicks team with John Starks and crew. I wish him well. He wasn't going to get minutes with JJ, Freeland, Leonard on the roster this season. If we need another big, Pryz is obtainable for less money and he's younger than Kurt. I'm hoping we do what the Thunder did and play the young guys this season. We're looking really athletic this season so far. Hope we get an uptempo coach soon. If we get another point guard, we're going to be deeper than people think. I'm pretty sure Batum will be here at least until Jan 15..I know a lot of people aren't sold on Pryzbilla, but I think he had no time to adjust signing late last season and he's a great mentor for Leonard. I want him to retire a Blazer and Kurt to retire a Knick. Pryz will look better with a full training camp and young bigs to spot him. He's smarter in the post than he gets credit for. Leonard is going to get into rookie big man foul trouble early next season. The rookie bigs never get calls against the vets. Go Blazers!

a little high agreed, but we have the cap space. might as well use it! felton was not going to return and thomas is the oldest player in the league, getting jeffries, a 2nd rounder and the 6'9" greece dude is a good haul of assets! jeffries could be valuable come trade deadline time.

I agree @cmeese about not doing the trade, but I think his maturity as a player(for 23) is very high, as well as him already being here, we need some vets on the team who knows portland and can represent it well. Although he didn't do a great job of making us seem like a good spot to be. Him coming back even though the free agency was shakey, working hard, and performing well will show a lot to the younger players about the league and portland, and that its better to have a home that you can say is headed in the right direction, than none at all.

Portland will accept him back if he performs and I bet he puts out some tweets saying how much he loves us in no time. Winning a player back who "wanted to leave" is better than anything else (winning him back as in him really re-loving the team and regretting wanting to leave).

Plus from a business perspective and the future of the franchise, its a definite good addition. Now lets hope the rooks and newbies prove to perform very well.

At this point, i really dont care. He and his agent handled this as unprofessionably as they possibly could have. I sure would like to hear more about the parameters of this offer. If we match, Nic had better step his game up tenfold. 20 points,7 rebounds, 7 assists,2 steals, and 2 blocks. If he can average that, i'll be impressed.

Brian Shaw has removed himself from Orlando's coaching availability list, as well as Malone. Im wishing for Shaw, but i wouldnt be opposed to have the Spurs assistant coach either.

That 15% trade kicker is ridiculous too.

I'm doubtful of his ability to earn that contract, and also of his ability to reach his potential. I hope I'm wrong.

Perhaps this is just our way of trying to keep ourselves in playoff contention, and trying to keep Minny out.

Mike Budenholzer is probably the best option but whoever they hire has to keep Kaleb who seems to have all the players support.

Trading within the division is always a bad idea. In his defense,we owe him the benefit of the doubt. Lets just agree that he wasnt being used correctly. With a new coach in place, lets see what we can get out of him in a new system.

Whats funny is that ray Felton said he's going to drop 50 on us.

Paul Allen said how do we get better?  I see no activity in the draft with no draft picks.  The trade possibilities are limited because of the value of our bench players.  We have no cap space.  So I think the improvement of our b...

First Game starts tonight. Houston is a tough first round opponent and they play exceptionally well at home. If we can steal a game or two at their place, I feel like we have extremely good chances.

P.S. Would anybody happen to have a...

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
