Portland should take Scott Machado in the second round. He averaged 13.6 pts on 49.5% shooting including a solid 40% from distance. Aside from that he lead the NCAA in assists per game with 9.9 and also provided 4.9 rebounds a game.

Basically he provides the same upside as Marshall with a better shot. He will also be available in the second round so he will be cheaper and allow us to save cap space.

I was a big fan of Machado at Iona.  Machado matched Marshall in assists per game with less talent around him.  Machado will make players around him better; very unselfish player.  I also like CJ McCollum and Ray McCallum Jr.  Ray's only a sophomore and I hadn't heard he's going pro, but if he does, he's got pedigree.  It wouldn't surprise me if he is going pro b/c all the starters around him were seniors.  All 3 of them shouldn't be picked in the first round and all can be as good for Portland (or better) than Marshall... cheaper too.

Scott Machado, destined to be taken in the second round but by some is considered the second best facilitator in the draft after Marshall. We have two picks in the second round, i propose we take him with one of them. He already possesses great court vision in transition and at the half court. Averaged 9.9 assists and 13.5 points per game. I've seen footage and the kids got talent. Why not take the punt?

lol, seen footage?  You mean you watched a youtube video?  He wasn't on TV a lot last year, but I got to see him play a few times, and of course he got his team in the NCAA tournament.  Machado was regarded as the best PG in the nation for much of last year because he was consistently leading everyone in assists per game.  When they didn't win their conference tournament, a lot of people thought Iona might not be dancing, but they made it, only to lose in one of the early games.  Machado ran the show, but he just didn't have enough of a supporting cast.  He can run the floor though and I think he'd be a good addition in Portland.  i don't hear a lot of people talking about this guy, but I think picking him in the 2nd round is a major steal, but keep in mind this is a pretty weak year for PGs and he may not slide to the 2nd round... I guess it depends on team needs before the draft gets back around to Portland.

Anther guy I like is Casper Ware.  Long Beach State was awesome last year; too bad Anderson got hurt because they were primed for a real sleeper run in the tourney last year.  Anyway, Casper was the guiding light for these guys, pretty solid little point guard in the mold of Eric Maynor of VCU.

Casper was only a 40% career shooter in a rather weak conference and he only managed about 3.5 assists per game not exactly someone I want to rely on.

If Kendall and Damian are not available at #11 then we shouold fall back to best player available.  Odds are this would not be a point guard.

One thing to keep in mind is that virtually ever player has flaws when looked at on paper.  It's much better to evaluate someone by watching them play.  Casper can run an offense.  If you want statistically sound though, then you should love Scott Machado.. he may have the best numbers across the board of anyone in the draft.

And if there's many more fans like you who are really particular about stats, then for your sake and many others', Portland better not draft Andre Drummond.  This guy is less than 30% from the charity stripe... that's enough to make Schonely puke.  He's also only the 4th best scorer on his team and for a guy as big as he is, he should be averaging more than 7 boards per game.  And if you look at the stats of many guys, you'll see similar flaws... Fab Melo greatly improved from his Fresh to Soph seasons, but even at that, his numbers weren't off the charts.  Only his blocks were respectable.

You'd think getting 10 assists per game with the talent of UNC around you would be easy, but getting 10 assists per game with Iona talent, not so easy.  So is Marshall better because he's a tarheel who played tougher competition, or is Machado better because he accomplished the same feat with worse players around him, well, and weaker compeition in conference?

It really does help if you've seen them play and people shouldn't be so hasty to judge based on stats.  Stats can change from one season to the next and a lot is determined based on the scenario one's thrust into.

And keep in mind, we're only talking about a 2nd round pick.  If Portland doesn't get Marshall or Machado, then my idea is to trade the 41st pick down, get something in return and with that lower pick, grab McCollum, Ware, or the like.

Sorry I am not a fan of a 5'9" point guard who has a tendency to take too many bad shots. His ceiling is JJ Barea and that is not what I am looking for.

I want either Machado or Lillard if we draft someone.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
