The Trail Blazers will receive the Nets' 2012 First Round Draft Pick as long as the pick does not land in the Top 3. Use this thread to keep track New Jersey's wins and losses over the course of the next month. I'll do my best to keep this updated with the current standings and Portland's projected odds of being able to use this pick in June's draft.

As of April 26th, 2012, the New Jersey Nets are owners of a 22-43 record -- tied for 6th worst in the NBA. The Nets are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Portland will receive New Jersey's pick if it falls between 4-14 during May 30th's Draft Lottery.

    Standings via ESPN

From best to worst, here is the breakdown of the percentage chance of winning the Draft Lottery based on current standings (via ESPN)-
    1) Charlotte: 25%
    2) Washington: 19.9%
    3) Cleveland: 12.1%
    4) Sacramento: 12.1%
    5) New Orleans: 12.1%
    6) Portland (via New Jersey): 5.4%
    7) Toronto: 5.3%
    8) Utah (via Golden State): 2.8%
    9) Detroit: 1.7%
    10) New Orleans (via Minnesota): 1.1%
    11) Portland: 0.8%
    12) Milwaukee: 0.7%
    13) Phoenix: 0.6%
    14) Houston: 0.5%

As of April 26th, here is Chad Ford's lottery Mock Draft along with the chances for each team to win the No. 1 pick. Portland would pick No. 6 via New Jersey and No. 11 if the draft started today and the lottery held form-

From SBNation, here is a visual breakdown of the Draft Lottery as of March 21st-

The first Blazers entry is a bit confusing: Portland actually has a 0 percent chance of landing a top-3 pick with that selection; if it's in the top three, New Jersey keeps it. But here's what the line illustrates: there is currently a 26 percent chance that the pick lands in the top three and stays with New Jersey, but a 45 percent likelihood that it lands at No. 4 or No. 5. Right now, the top odds are at the pick landing at No. 5 overall (35 percent).
The Nets are virtually tied with the Toronto Raptors. If New Jersey climbs over T-Dot in the final standings, the likelihood that the pick lands in the top three shrinks, and the likelihood that it becomes No. 4, 5 or 6 -- Portland's dream -- increases. The Nets being exactly where they are right now is essentially a best-case scenario for the Blazers, though a bit of improvement for New Jersey to lessen the likelihood of a lottery win would provide some peace of mind.
The Blazers' own pick matters too, of course. Right now, it's slotted at No. 10. There isn't much room for improvement, to be honest; the Golden State Warriors -- whose pick goes to the Utah Jazz if it doesn't land in the top seven -- are one game worse, but there's quite a bit of space between Portland and the Cleveland-Detroit-Sacramento cluster. So it would appear that a best-case scenario for the Blazers would be to end up with the No. 4 and No. 9 picks. In this draft? That's worth some heavy drool.

That same article also said that Portland has about a 73% chance of getting New Jersey's pick, as opposed to New Jersey having a 27% chance of falling to the top 3 in the draft. 3 to 1 sounds good to me :)

The Clippers got Minny's pick in a Marko Jaric trade a while back I believe and used that pick along with Eric Gordon to nab CP3.

What would be the best record for NJ to have for their last 18 games? (best meaning best for the Blazers as always.)

    9-9?
    8-10?
    10-8?

I want to know how often to root for the Nets and when to root against them like I normally do.

New Jersey would be estatic to finish the season with 9 wins or more. They have some thrilling young talent, and 3 All-Stars in Gerald Wallace, Deron Williams, and Brook Lopez. Although Lopez has unfortunately been injured for most all this season, If the stars lineup correctly, the Nets could be challenging for the playoffs in 2013.

Go Toronto, Detroit, Sacramento, Utah, and Golden State. New Jersey needs to win 3-4 more games and get the 4th pick. We need to lose the rest of the way and get lucky in the lottery. We need a PG and a big man PF of C. If we get the 4th pick and the first 3 are bigs we should take a PG first.

NOO we should not pick up a PG in this draft! It is a big man's draft! With our picks we should be getting another good back up PF, a good C, or both. (i love hickson but it can't hurt to have another good big) MAYBE pick up a SF or SG if they are the best player available. We still can look at FA to pick up that "great PG" As long as we are smart with the salaries we keep, the way we resign people, and then we might have enough room to sign a great PG in FA.
I still think it will be extremely hard for us to get this "great PG", we have Nolan smith and Flynn right now, and I think they both have a lot of potential. The only draw back is, i don't think either one is an elite PG. Unless we pull off some awesome trade from our draft, or pick one up in FA, we are stuck with the PG's we have. Sadly Felton is the starter for now, and the FA agency won't have a lot of options for PG's wanting to come to P town..

I would not say no way to getting a PG in this draft depending on where we land. However, there are only a few quality options. One being Kendall Marshall, another Damian Lillard, and a big sleeper would be Jesse Sanders.

We should take Drummond with our first pick. Kid's a beast and we need a strong presence inside. I actually like the idea of taking Tyler Zeller with the second pick. Both Zeller brothers are good players, but Tyler has more experience and a very Pau Gasol-like feel to his game. Grant it, he's no Pau, but he is surprisingly quick with his hands. Unorthodox for a center, but that could very much work in his favor.

    Toronto Raptors vs. Miami Heat

Toronto is only a half-game behind New Jersey for fourth position in the lottery standings
    Washington Wizards vs. Philadelphia 76ers
The Wizards hold a five-game lead over the Nets for second position in the lottery standings.
    Charlotte Bobcats vs. Denver Nuggets
The Bobcats have a three-game lead over the Wizards for the top spot in the draft lottery standings while the Nuggets have a three-game lead over the Trail Blazers for the eight spot in the Western Conference playoff standings.
New York Knicks @ Atlanta Hawks
The Knicks have a 10-game lead in the loss column over the Nets for the last playoff spot out East. The more the Knicks win, the better as it ensures New Jersey will be participating in the Draft Lottery.
    Detroit Pistons @ Chicago Bulls
The Pistons are just three-games back of the Nets in the loss column. Hopefully, the Pistons continue to win so they don't push New Jersey too much further out. We want the highest pick possible from the Nets (#4).
New Jersey Nets @ Golden State Warriors
The Nets are three-games out of third in regards to Draft Lottery standings but just two games separate them from their current position (4th) and sixth.

Nets possibly able to be in the ninth worst spot in the league at end of season.  I don't think they can climb too much higher.  I don't mind them riding a little above that 4 spot but they climbed up to 7 tonight.  Getting a little high.  5 or 6 would be good.

Yep.  They have won three in a row AND 4 of their last 5.  We now need to do the unthinkable and pull for the Lake show to take care of biz tomorrow night, then ofcourse our team to do the same Weds.  One of the few games I've been able to attend...is the upcoming NJ game.  You can bet I won't have a voice Thursday morning.

April 3rd, 2012 Games of Note-
    Toronto Raptors vs Charlotte Bobcats

The Raptors are only a half-game ahead of the Nets in the draft lottery standings. A Raptors win tonight and a Nets loss and the two teams would flip flop for the time being.
New York Knicks @ Indiana Pacers
The Knicks are nine games up on the Nets in the loss column for the eight playoff seed out East. It will only take a few more wins by New York or losses by New Jersey to cement the Nets into the lottery.
    Detroit Pistons vs Orlando Magic
The Pistons have lost two fewer games then the Nets. Hopefully the Pistons pick up a few wins the rest of the way so the Nets' lottery position isn't affected.
    Sacramento Kings vs Phoenix Suns
The Kings are only one loss away from tying the Nets for sixth position in the draft lottery.
New Jersey Nets @ Los Angeles Lakers
We need the Nets to lose. As much as it makes me sick to root for the Lakers, a Nets loss could push them back into 4th/5th in the lottery standings.

Lol...nope.  Was at a game earlier this season where the Garden started rocking that chant, prompting me to turn to my son and shrug my shoulders.  Wallace hadn't just recently done anything noteworthy, and had roughly 6 pts and 4 boards for the game IN THE THIRD QUARTER.  I didn't understand it then...and I still don't understand it now.  I was a fan then too, whereas I'm anything but a Wallace supporter now.  If anything, I will be hoarse tomorrow from booing his every touch of the rock and definately his intro.  He quit on Portland.  Portland tonight will now have the unique opportunity to quit on him.  I'm in.

I will, however be loudly yelling "DER-ON WILL-LIAMS" clap clap clapclapclap!  Blazer fans made headlines nationally with the Marcus Camby chant last season...something that at that time, was unprecedented.  Since, I haven't heard of any other arenas doing the same...one full year later.  How many headlines will this market make if they chant an OPPONENT'S name (in a positive manner)?  Tonight will be very interesting!  All that said, this is one of (if not the only) the only games remaining on the schedule this season with real meaning.  This is a must win.

PS~ re last nights Laker-Net game...thank you Mamba!

April 4th, 2012 Games of Note-
    Toronto Raptors @ Philadelphia 76ers

Toronto is only a half-game behind New Jersey for 5th in the Lottery standings. Win Raptors Win!
    Cleveland Cavaliers @ Milwaukee Bucks
The Cavs are losers of 8 in a row and are currently one spot ahead of the Nets in the lottery standings. They have played four fewer games then the Nets (currently 2 fewer losses), so anytime the Cavs can get a win over the month of April would be helpful.
Portland Trail Blazers vs New Jersey Nets
Lets. Go. Blazers! After winning three straight games, the Nets lost last night in L.A. to the Lakers. I don't think the Nets will be bad enough to finish in the Top 3 as the Hornets, Wizards, and Bobcats are too far in front of the pack, so just root for NJ to lose to the rest of the way and hopefully they get the fourth spot heading into the Draft Lottery.

April 5th, 2012 Games of Note-
New York Knicks @ Orlando Magic

With a win, I believe the Knicks eliminate the Nets from the playoffs as they are 10 games up in the loss column with just 10 games to go. Or maybe it will take one more Nets loss. Either way, it looks like a foregone conclusion at the moment.
    Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards
Root for Detroit. The Pistons are four games back of the Nets in the loss column in terms of lottery standings (33-to-37) while the Wizards are five games ahead of the Nets (42-to-37). There's a better chance of Detroit passing New Jersey then New Jersey passing Washington.
Sacramento Kings vs. Los Angeles Clippers
The Kings have played two less games then the Nets and have two fewer losses. Basically, if they keep losing they will be tied with New Jersey. So go Kings, go!

It seems the best case scenario would have Portland drafting #4 and #9 and the worst case would have us drafting #14 with no other first rounder.  Quite a difference.  Opens the door for a lot of speculation.

April 6th, 2012 Games Of Note-
    Toronto Raptors vs Cleveland Cavaliers

This one is a win-win. Toronto has won 3 straight, allowing the Nets to have two more losses. The Cavs, who have played 4 fewer games then New Jersey, have lost two fewer games but have more chances to surpass New Jersey in the loss column.
New Jersey Nets vs Washington Wizards
The Nets are in 5th for the moment but could still use a few more losses. It's looking unlikely they will surpass the Cavs for 4th once its all said and done so 5th is looking like the best spot for the Nets before the Ping-Pong balls decide their fate.
    Detroit Pistons @ Atlanta Hawks
Go Hawks Go! Detroit has four fewer losses then the Nets.
New Orleans Hornets @ San Antonio Spurs
New Orleans has 40 losses, New Jersey 37. Depending on your thinking, this could go either way. A Hornets loss keeps the Nets further away from the Top 3 in the lottery standings but a Hornets win inches the Nets closer to No. 3 or 4. The odds increase for New Jersey to get a Top 3 pick, which would mean we wouldn't get it, but if another team leaped over them in the lotto, their pick would be higher for us to use. It's definitely a gamble.

    Detroit Pistons @ Orlando Magic

With the Nets' recent two-game winning streak, they have surged into 7th. The Pistons are in 8th, two games behind the Nets in the loss column. Just to be safe, let's hope Detroit can continue to win games here and there. I don't want New Jersey's pick to be any lower then No. 7.
    Toronto Raptors @ Indiana Pacers
Toronto and New Jersey both have the same amount of losses (37), but the Raps have one fewer win, giving them the edge for 6th. It's unlikely they win in Indy, but it sure would help us out.

April 10th, 2012 Games Of Note-
    Cleveland Cavaliers vs Charlotte Bobcats

The Cavs are currently fourth in the Draft Lottery standings but have somehow played four less games overall then the Nets. They have two fewer wins and losses then the New Jersey. It's doubtful they lose to the woeful Bobcats, but we can hope!
New Jersey Nets vs Philadelphia 76ers
The Nets are right in the middle of the 4-8 logjam that is happening in the lottery standings. Right now they are seventh but with just a few losses in a row, they could be right back down to fifth or sixth. Go Philly!
    Sacrameno Kings vs Dallas Mavericks
The Kings have one more loss then the Nets (38/37) and two fewer wins (19/21) and are also in prime real estate at the moment, fifth. Dallas has been struggling lately and the game is at Sacramento, so the Kings could pull the upset.

New Jersey just keeps winning which means we will likely have their pick it just might not be as good as we had hoped for.

    Detroit Pistons @ Charlotte Bobcats-

Detroit has two fewer losses then the Nets, so we need the Pistons to continue to win so New Jersey doesn't move up to eight heading into the draft lottery.

    Toronto Raptors vs Boston Celtics

The Raptors have a full game on the Nets for a higher position in the Draft Lottery standings. A win against Boston would be go a long way in helping the Nets climb a couple of spots.
New Jersey Nets @ Philadelphia 76ers
The Nets need to keep losing and losing and losing. They are in 7th right now, which isn't low enough for my liking so let's hope Philly takes them to the woodshed again tonight.
    Cleveland Cavaliers @ Indiana Pacers
Cleveland has played three fewer games then the Nets but only have one fewer loss, so the more losses the better for the Kyrie Irving-less Cavs.
    Detroit Pistons vs Milwaukee Bucks
Here's a tricky game to pick. The Pistons have two fewer losses then the Nets for 7th but the Bucks have two less losses then the Trail Blazers for 11th. Either way it's probably a win-win, but I think I'm pulling for a Bucks win.
Sacramento Kings @ Oklahoma City Thunder
The Kings have two more losses then the Nets but are on a massive losing streak and I don't expect it to stop tonight in Oklahoma City of all places.

    Toronto Raptors vs Atlanta Hawks

With their win over the Hawks, in Atlanta Sunday, combined with New Jersey's loss to Boston, the Nets are now tied for 6th with the Raptors. Hopefully, the Raptors can take down the Hawks yet again, this time in Canada.
New Jersey Nets vs Miami Heat
Lose. Nets. Lose. There is a log jam for 6th and the more losses the Nets can accumulate the better.
Golden State Warriors vs San Antonio Spurs
Quietly, the Warriors have collapsed. They are now just two losses behind the Nets. With news coming out today that David Lee may be done for the year and more wins by the W's seems highly unlikely. But this game is in the Bay and you never know who Pop might rest tonight. Here's hoping for a GS win.

I really want the Nets to end up 6th going into the lottery. So, if another team jumps them, the pick will be #7 and the odds of them making the Top 3 still aren't that good. Seems like a win-win on all accounts. Unfortunately, I've got a feeling the Hawks are going to play angry tonight and make an example out of the Raps.

I think Portland is most likely to draft 8th and 11th based on who is playing who and where they stand right now.  This plus our situation this summer with free agency say we could have a new look to our team next year.

    Detroit Pistons vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Your classic toss-up game. If the Pistons win, it helps avoid a potential four-way tie for sixth. But if the Cavs win, it pushes them closer to the logjam for sixth. Cleveland has played three fewer games then New Jersey and would need to go 2-1 just to tie the nets, while the Pistons have played two fewer games then the Nets and would have to go 0-2 to tie them. I'm leaning towards rooting for Detroit. The likelihood of Cleveland going 2-1 without Irving is slim. Plus the game is at Detroit.

    Cleveland Cavaliers vs Philadelphia 76ers

The Cavs have the same amount of losses as the Nets (40) but two fewer wins. After getting drubbed by the Pistons last night, I doubt we get any help from the Cavs, but stranger things have happened.
New Jersey Nets vs New York Knicks
Currently, the Nets are tied for 6th but it could eventually turn into a three-way for 6th if Golden State keeps losing the way they are. So, for the Nets to stay in the middle of the lottery, we need them to lose out.
    Detroit Pistons @ Atlanta Hawks
Detroit did us a favor last night by blasting Cleveland, helping nullify a potential four0way tie for 6th. To ensure they stay out of New Jersey's way, it would be nice for the Pistons to pick up a few wins down the home stretch.
    Toronto Raptors @ Miami Heat
The Raptors have the exact same record as the Heat so it would be beneficial for them to lose tonight, but unless Miami is resting the farm, I don't see it happening.
New Orleans Hornets @ Memphis Grizzlies
A team no one is talking about is the New Orleans Hornets. Ever since getting Eric Gordon back, the Bugs have been playing spoiler, even winning four straight. With those wins came a chance -- albeit a slight one -- for the Nets to pass them in the standings. New Orleans would have to win three of their next five and New Jersey lose their remaining four games to make a tie happen.
Sacramento Kings vs San Antonio Spurs
The Kings have played one fewer game then the Nets and are already one loss up on the Nets so it would take a hot streak from the Kings to close the gap. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening against the Spurs.
Golden State Warriors vs Los Angeles Lakers
The Warriors are one of those teams quietly creeping up on the Nets. Golden State has the same amount of wins, just two fewer losses. Meaning, if both teams lose out the rest of the way, they will end up tied going into the lottery so we need the W's to give us a W or two!

    Detroit Pistons vs Minnesota Timberwolves

Currently, the Pistons have played one fewer game (which they will make up for tonight) then the Nets and have two fewer losses. So if they win, the Nets still hold a one-game lead, but just to be safe, lets hope the Pistons win and give the Nets a two-game cushion with three left to play.
New Orleans Hornets vs Houston Rockets
Just like Detroit, New Orleans has played two fewer games then the Nets, only the Hornets have two more losses. If New Jersey is to catch New Orleans, the Hornets need to win this one tonight.
