If Portland gets R.Felton to produce like NY did, this will be a fantastic trade. But if he produces like he did for Denver this will be a horrible trade. N.Smith i don't know why Portland drafted him. If they would have drafted Faried they would have a back up PF and have a good rotation at PG. Patty being back up or possible A.Johnson. But hey that is the past and this is the present. I do hope that C.Johnson comes back next season and plays at a high level. Diebler i think will be a better Rudy. I feel getting rid of him was a good move. Maybe they will sign Pendergraph in the off-season and that will be our back up. Hope Portland will only move forward from here on out. Go Blazers 11-12 Champs!!
I am a fan of Portland's big three. Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and the newest Trail Blazers Gerald Wallace

Welcome back to sucktown, Portland.  Another idiot draft decision from the geniuses that brought you Oden (who - mark my words - will NEVER play a full season).  We've given away our leadership and heart for...  what, exactly?

This decision will haunt us for decades.

    Again.

Anyone who said it was a bad draft day because of the rudy trade need to learn a lot more about basketball or watch the blazers closer.  Rudy was horrible for us and im really glad he's finally gone.  Also I think Smiths game will translate quite well to the nba.  He's an average passer, isnt too selfish, is really athletic, knows how to win (won the championship with duke a couple years ago), is a quick and really good scorer and is at least way better than dre from three point range.  Also the trade for Felton was really good since he's younger, a lot quicker and better at getting out on fast breaks, he's bigger, he's an unselfish player and a very good passer, a way quicker defender than dre which is really important since we got torched in the playoffs by dallas' pg's, and he's a better shooter which makes him a better fit for us than dre since now opposing teams cant double LA as easily since Aldridge actually has people who he can kick the ball out to for the open three now.  Before, since andre sucks at shooting, teams could just double aldridge using andre's man since andre cant shoot but now since smith and felton are pretty good 3 point shooters they cant do that.  Also felton played with wallace and they were great together so that should help our team chemistry

only reason i gave it a b is because I think we should have traded our second rounders and maybe babbit or armon for a good backup bigman and also we shouldnt have had to include the pick we got from dallas in the denver trade.  But thats not even a big problem.  we still can make trades or get a backup big via free agency so it was still a succesful draft and we addressed our need for a younger, better shooting and defending point gaurd

I hear a lot of people saying we gave up "too much" for Felton. Is a 35 year old Andre Miller and inconsistent shooting guard Rudy Fernandez too much for a 27 year old Raymond Felton who has been steadily improving his entire career?

There's a reason the Knicks were a surprise this season in the first half and he was a huge part of that resurgence. He and Amare teamed up to become a deadly pick and roll tandem. Just imagine him working with LA?

I was a Dre fan just like the rest, but he wasn't getting any younger and with his contract expiring this was one of the last chances to get a younger lead guard before it's too late. Rudy improved his overall game but the fact was he just wasn't knocking down his shot and we had to use him to get Felton.

Overall I thought it was a good trade and Felton will become a fan fave just like Dre was.

Okay, I've had some time to step back and digest what has happened, compartmentalizing and thus simplifying my thoughts...

    Bottom line:

Goal of organization?  To advance past first round and to "win now".

Ask yourselves...is Felton likely to contribute on the same level Andre would have during the remainder of Felton's contract (only signed thru upcoming abbreviated season).  I say NO.  Chemistry is vital, especially where your quarterback/floor leader are concerned and the team and Andre had it going on.  If Felton is to be an upgrade over Miller, I don't believe that to happen for at least a year (please see "Goal of organization" above).  Excuses will be plentiful if this team gets off to a slow start.  Remember the goal as expressed by both the owner and entire organization publicly in the days leading up to the draft when this team struggles to find rythym when basketball resumes.

On a related note, I am growing increasingly concerned with Nate's short term extension (only one full season after the upcoming abbreviated one) and the overtones associated with it.

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=20253  I agree, especially with assessment of Faried

I agree 100%. If Rondo or Rose were injured, Felton would have been an All Star. He was playing at a very good level. It didn't workout in Denver because it was a mid-season trade, like Melo and the Knicks struggling after the trade. He's an upgrade over Dre and it reminds me when he came here and nobody was sure if he was a good fit.

Minnesota used the 57th pick to take Tanguy Ngombo(notes), a native of the Republic of Congo who played for the Qatar national team, but DraftExpress.com reported that documents exist with FIBA and Qatar that show Ngombo’s birthday to be 1984, not 1989 as the NBA reported. If proven, this could make Ngombo 26 years old, ineligible for the draft under league guidelines and a free agent available to any team.

Ngombo had been scouted by the Wolves’ international scouting director, Pete Philo, who coached with the Chinese national team against Qatar. The Wolves had been privately thrilled over the drafting of Ngombo, a 6-foot-6 wing, and believed him to be a real prospect. If Ngombo is ruled ineligible by the NBA, he could struggle to find more suitors willing to invest the time and resources to develop him because of his age.

I give this draft a solid B. We're set at the PG postion now (no more Roy and Rudy at PG experiment). Sure we didnt address our need at back up pf, but i dont think faried was the answer. I really liked his motor but hes undersized at 6 ft 7. If we want an undersized guy for that role then why not just slide gerald wallace to the 4, atleast that gives us an offensive advantage against slower bench  pf's and allows both he and batum to play at the same time and get their minutes. Thats not a full time solution but for short stretches it might work out to our advantage. There are plenty of options in the free agency, that could come in and play a few minutes, grab a couple boards and take a charge or two. Jeff Pendergraph, Joel Pryzbilla or Troy Murphy would be fairly inexpensive, or maybe Allen's willing to pay more for guys like Carl Landry or David West. Bottom line: theres still a few holes but the Blazers got better which is exactly what you want when drafting/ trading.

    B. Good addition but like everyone else is saying. We gave up too much in the trade, and we should've drafted Faired.

This draft really didn't offer the nba too much so I'll give it a low B on what we were able to get. I'll be cheering for our new three point specialist.

the difference between dre and felten is obvious in my opinion, felton will make the pace of the game faster, which benifits everyone on the team besides  roy, gerald aldrige battum mathews posible pendigraph and elliot williams will all enjoy the speed to quicken, agreed felton is not a lights out shooter, but his range and consistancy  beyond the arch is better than dre's, this move was also made because if roy is healthy, in our half court sets, roy will have the ball in his hands, felton can play off of him better than dre could

We have been interested in Felton for a couple of years. We just gave up too much. Denver was not interested in him. He was on their bench, there was a reason for that. The Thuggets must be laughing their butts off. We did not need to give them anything accept Andre if we played it right. We appeared more desperate to trade Andre than we needed to. Andre is the NBA's IRON MAN. His game has not been effected by his age, and will play in all 82 of their games next year. You can not say that about many of the top Point Guards. They wanted Andre and they played us like rookies. Chad, I would have been impressed if you pulled off our #21 draft pick and their number #22 pick out of the deal. We would have ended up with Nolan, and Farried. Another Missed Opportunity. Farried is going to come back and haunt us.

from a talent standpoint, the players are solid. from a position-priority standpoint, it's extremely ridiculous. seriously, what did we get? no help with the front line and two point guards of the future? it's puzzling. very puzzling. i'm not so sure why we went this way (probably all that "best player available" crap). i wouldn't have such an issue if it were one pg, but two when we could have gotten some help up front is just a waste of a roster spot.

i know everyone is high on Chad, but i really hope he does not become our next gm. am i the only one who realizes that he has engineered two blazers drafts, while using every single pick to draft a guard? let's get someone in there who can grow a pair and tell PA exactly what we need -- then go and get it.

    to apply grades:

    player talent: B
    position strategy: F
overall: C- (and that's only if we use one of these guys to trade for a big).

^Agree, adding once again, risking redundancy, Faried was there and would have filled an immediate need up front and been a rotational player, likely backing LA.  Portland helped rebuild a rival in Denver, something I am STILL scratching my head about.
