I worried too but if we can keep rolling wins with Roy being off the ball passive it wont hurt AS much but still its like walking on a tightrope with your balance stick heavier on one side.  You may make it halfway but eventually the toll will be taken and you fall... Hope he has a net underneath him...

But it was really an inferior team so we should have won. If we play the Jazz or the Lakers and Roy stands around the whole game huckin up j's all night we are doomed unless he is shoots like 80%. This same old stagnant offense where every one stands around waiting to shoot a jumper is gonna ruin us again if it doesn't change. We may get 50 wins but in the playoffs we will not have a different result doing the same damn thing we've been doing now for 3 years plus. Maybe Paul Allen needs to yell at Brandon to start MOVING and DRIVING! Look what Nash was doing, he's an old man and he's still driving in shaking off bigger guys scoring or dishing at the hoop. I think Brandon did that once and didn't even get all the way to the hoop.

    @Fallen_Deity:  Well said.  Nice analogy.

BTW, was ALMOST as much a Celtic fan as I was a Blazer fan tonight.  With all due respect to the Miami Heat fans that post on this site, I was very happy to see them go down tonight.  That team is not unbeatable, at least not yet.  Their achilles is exactly what I said it would be.  I share Antonio Harvey's disdain for that team, and for the same reasons.  Again, sorry if I have offended anyone.
HEY!!!   NEVER EVER apologize to another teams fans!!!!!!! This is the Blazer's site. ha ha.
Man I sure hate Lebron, and I hate that new commercial. Sick of it already. I wish he and Nike would just disappear.

Tom I agree with your sentiment thats why I said wont hurt AS much but it will still hurt and my analogy basically means we can survive with him pulling that for only so long before we cant keep on track and it knocks us off.

Yeah I pretty much explained your analogy in depth. ha ha! I forget what my original train of thought is sometimes because I will have multiple tabs open and I get mixed up... especially like today when there are 3 threads for the same dang thing.

game ball goes to Nicolas for his defense and those treys. he made the suns pay for their defensive assignment of putting Nash on him by going inside and grabbing those offensive rebounds. Nash couldn't complete on the boards with Nicolas. Nicolas had just about as complete a game as a guy can have. btw, fourth quarter scoring: Nicolas 11, suns 11.

Brandon reminded me that pre-season really doesn't matter. he played a complete game last night, first half and second. he's a guy who doesn't need to force things, but can let the game come to him. sure, we could ask him to basically be the team, but that's not his role with us. i'm glad.

i tend to agree with Dave over at blazersedge in his assessment of LaMarcus' role last night. in fact, Michael Holton said some very similar things on the 5th quarter. while he may have had a size advantage over Turgolu, that's not the game we needed from him. critics can pan him for not going inside, but last night that would have just clogged the middle which we were trying to unclog. LaMarcus as a decoy opened up a lot of opportunities for Nicolas, Brandon, Wesley and Marcus.

speaking of Marcus, he may just hustle better than any other center his age. not only did he score 13 and grab 10 boards, he dished three assists, blocked a shot and snagged a steal. i particularly liked when he went to the floor after the loose ball.

Wesley had the type of game i think a lot of you guys expected him to have, and if he continues to do so, i'll be happy with the acquisition (btw, i don't need everyone pointing out to me how great they think he is!). Armon's never-back-down determination can hopefully be addicting. he played some great defense and gave us that spark in the fourth quarter. i must admit that i thought of Vinnie when i realized it was the Armonizer getting some playing time in the fourth!

Andre, for all his criticisms, distributed the ball very well and also gave us a lift in the fourth when we needed it. Dante had a very serviceable game -- not a knock on him with that word -- just a very nice blue collar effort. Rudy showed some nice hustle, but ouch -- missing those free throws! although it was limited, and barely a day after joining the team, i liked the effort put forth by Fabricio. three minutes of rest he can give Marcus is valuable.

we outrebounded the suns by 18 and more than doubled their assist total. i'd just like to say in response to critics of the offense: you don't get 31 assists as a team with guys just standing around. great ball movement.

You thought of Vinny Del Negro? How odd!
Andre almost had a double double with 10 and 9. He had some really nice passes last night. as usual.
And the thing I like about Wesley is his defense not necessarily his offense.
I also liked that we were attempting a lot of lob passes at the rim by people other than Andre.

I just watched the game again and Brandon did a LOT of standing around, especially when Dre was in. That was my complaint. There was only a few times when EVERYONE was standing still. I would like to see Brandon move and cut without the ball more like what Rudy does.

I have heard people say it was a sloppy game, the Defense was passable but not fantastic, however something that has not been mentioned (surprisingly) fast break points.  Not only did we only hold them to 6 which is unheard of for the suns but we ran the court and got 13 fast break points.  I know 13 isn't flashy but its an improvement and will help us out if it continues.

Great point.  That second unit really pushed the tempo, and did so with a limited amount of unforced TOs.  Armon, Rudy, and Matthews really attacked.  Dre always looks ahead off the outlet.  He is a constant.  Speaking of attacking.  Anyone else notice the Bayless-type reckless abandon Wesley attacked with?  That's a big body coming right atcha.  No fear.

Wesley is a beast, and he'll do that night in and night out as long as he's healthy and on the court.

hmm, i'm remarking of what i heard from the announcers and commentators who said Brandon was active and not just standing there. you also need to realize that there are plays where clearouts are created for other players which don't require him to move around.

i understand you want to see brandon move and cut, but that's not the game Nate asks him to play. Nate has said previously, Brandon is not Rudy and Rudy is not Brandon. i'd rather each play to their own styles than try turning one into another.

Seriously, no one can say they should get more touches and then just stand there. It hasn't been his game since only last yer and that is exactly the problem with our offense being stagnant. I used Rudy as an example and I know they are not the same player, but even grade school kids are taught to move more. That's all I'm saying, I'm not saying change his style. Wes, Rudy and Batum all move without the ball. And as I am writing this Brandon just drove into the lane for a basket because he moved to get position on someone and Dre passed him the ball.

part of Nate's gameplan is to clear out for players. Brandon is not always that player and when he's not, he's going to stand aside. take Nicolas, for instance, one of his roles is to find a spot for an open three, sometimes that's going to seem like he's standing around, when he's actually just fitting within the system. my point is, Nate's gameplan is probably more to highlight if you think Brandon is not active enough.

my point in commenting on your Rudy comparison still stands, even if it was only an example. Brandon is his own player and that's what is key in pointing this out. Nate's offense is geared toward Brandon playing to his strengths.

of course, last night, Brandon was all over the court, even positioning himself to rebound, which he nabbed 10.

From last nights performance, it's clearly not Nate McMillan's fault for some players drifting. It's the players fault, Nate most likely made the film session key  in on the stagnant offense we played the first game. Watch last nights game twice and the movement was good and hopefully keeps getting better.

What I really liked from last night was when we ran iso plays for players we didn't just throw them the ball and clear it, we tried to create mismatches off screens and force teams to switch before the ball was thrown to the iso player. Awesome.

Yes I still think Kassandra doesn't understand exactly what I am saying. A better example than Rudy is Brandon himself last night. He was active, not just standing around looking at everyone from the 3 point line. He drove to the basket, got 10 boards and looked like he wanted to play. Everyone is their own player, that's obvious. If you actually watched both games I think you can see what i am saying. Wheels doesn't ever say "Brandon is standing around watching... he's still standing... and he is STILL standing".

And Bertram I do think it is Nate's fault for not doing something about it, like pulling them out of the game if they are just going to stand around, including Brandon. He never pulls Brandon for anything. I remember a couple years ago Phil Jackson still pulling Bryant when he would do stupid things and he's been in the league over 10 years, I dont know why Nate can't pull Brandon aside every once in a while to keep him honest, especially on D. It's almost like Mike Brown spoiling Lebron.

    to answer this
He never pulls Brandon for anything
    with this
Nate's offense is geared toward Brandon playing to his strengths.

And i would say that it would totally be the players fault, a coach, or anyone for that matter, can say or yell something at you during a timeout or halftime, but it comes down to the player to actually do what it is he was told. i mean thats a given. Roy last night wasnt just standing around,  not on d either, he was poking, stealing, rebounding.
if there was anyone standing around, it would be Wesley. But Kassandra nailed it, smartest thing she's said yet,
for instance, one of his roles is to find a spot for an open three, sometimes that's going to seem like he's standing around, when he's actually just fitting within the system.
Now that is what i saw, no one running a play really, just looking for their shot, and trying to free up, Nicolas was doin that the whole game, moving around. Rudy was too, however he was just looking for his shot, so thats what the "standing there" breaks down to.

From what we were doing against the Clippers compared to what we did against the Suns on offense, standing around isn't apart of our system anymore. It looks like we are trying to emphasize making screens to cause mismatches off the ball.

I can also see some ingenuity with our post game. Last year and the year before that we used the post only to create a shot for the post player, but from last game we used the post to create a shot on the weak side. It was pretty nice to watch.
